Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park: April / May 2012:

In April and May 2012, we visited the park for the 5th times. We love the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park very much.

It was our first visit to this time. Our previous trips were in August and September.
The green park was very impressive for us.

My english is not so good. :? Therefore, I will post more photos than text.

Well, let us start ...

Welcome kyknetta, Goronta and lion queen and thanks for the encouraging words. 8)

18.04.2012:

We spend two weeks :) in the park.
The first night we stay at Mata Mata (chalet #3).

In the afternoon we make our first game drive up to the 'Dalkeith' waterhole.
A Verreaux's Eagle Owl sitting under a tree.

Otherwise, we only see "the usual suspects" such as Springbok, Gemsbok and Jackals.

At night, a bat flies in our bathroom and there making noise. Finally she finds the way out alone.

Tomorrow we go to Urikaruus. :D

Thanks GavinW, Pumbaa, kyknetta and barryels. :) I appreciate your comments.

19.04.2012: The next morning we drive to Urikaruus. Since we still have time before we can check in there, we go to the 'Rooibrak' waterhole.

There we see many Red-headed Finches and a Shaft-tailed Whydah. A very impressive bird, which unfortunately hardly sit still and is difficult to capture on the photo.

Thank you for all your kind comments. :)

In the Wilderness Camp Urikaruus Jaques shows us our cabin for the next 3 nights (No. 2). It has a nice view at the waterhole. Against 18:20 clock is sunset. We start up the grill and it give delicious oryxfilets.

Against 19:40 clock moves somewhat at the waterhole => a Leopard. We are very happy.
(But the photo looks more like a phantom  )

After that comes a African Wild Cat to the waterhole to drink.

Nearby we hear nibble it. We discover an Tree mouse (Thallomys paedulcus).

And then … 1.5km north from 'Montrose' - we see a Leopard. :D :D
We can observe them for a long time and we are that time entire alone with the Leopard.
A magnificent experience to watch them so close.

Image

We can identify them as MIERA.
We do this thanks to the leopard-identification project of AstroMatt. :gflower:

In the evening a thunderstorm is approaching. Lightning flashes around us, a great spectacle. Then it starts to rain heavily. We are glad to have a roof over our heads.

We are delighted to read your comments.

21.04.2012:
Today we drive towards Mata Mata. Between the 'Dertiende Boorgat' and 'Veertiende Boorgat' are close to the roadside two teenage Lions. :D They look to some passing by Springboks. The Springboks take a while before they trust over some distance to the Lions. The lions rather continue their nap.
