We made a quick trip to the Skukuza and Malelane area and were lucky to get 3 sightings of cheetah, in total 11 animals.

We just started posting images in Arno's PBase gallery.

Visitors welcome.

Hi
Great
Would be nice to know where you saw the cheetahs

On the 8th we saw 5 at Afsaal - not 500 meters from the entrance.
On the morning of the 9th we saw 3 in the road on theS30
(The iamge) and later the day 3 at the "T" of H3 / S113

Regards

Do you think it is possible that the ones near Afsaal and the ones at the H3/S113 could have been part of the same group.?

No I don't think so. On 6th March 2006 we saw the 3 at H3/S113 for the first time, almost on exactly the same spot - just the other side of the road. (image)

On 9 Aug 2006 we saw them again and the people at Afsaal reported that the 5 we saw on 8 Aug have moved and were last seen on the H2-2. We did not follow that tip as we were on our way out.

The other strange thing about the trip is that it is the first trip that we can remember in 21 years that we did not get a single lion image. We only saw 2 lions (mating couple) on the loop at the H12 / H4-1 T-junction. With about 30 cars at the sighting we had no change of takeing any photo's

We will be back on the 25 th Aug.

Sometimes your luck flows , others not .

I would say luck is 99% but to go back to a previous sighting spot has never failed us.

The 3 cheetah on 6/3/2006 and on 9/8/2006, 5 months apart, should surely be the same animals as we saw them not 500 meters from the place of the first sighting.

At renosterkoppiedam, the T-junction S21 and S114, we saw a leopard and her cub on three occasions over a period of a year. We have images of the cub not 1 month old and later as a young leopard with her mom.

We saw a female leopard on maroelaloop 4 times over a period of about 2 years.

The same happened with the cheetah's near the H10 / S29. Refer my and Salva's images on this forum.

So to us, yes luck is playing a part, but if we go back to old sighting spots we tend to have more luck.

Good luck!!

This is the closest we got to not seeing a leopard.

Hi,

that's blaireau (miel blaireau), a very tough, courageous and highly interesting animal. Even predateurs prefer to take the other side of the road when passing it.

Wonderful creature.
