Hi 123

We stayed there a few times before. Don't look at the map, it's not 100% correct.

Number 37 is private indeed, but if you looked at the map the bathrooms (on the top of number 37) are the restaurants bathrooms. The nearest bathrooms are close to number 62. (bit to the right on the map) I would say it's about the same distance to the bathrooms from number 31 as well as 37. Only difference...

Walking from number 31 towards the bathrooms, you need to go down some pretty steep stairs, and the kitchen it's a lot further away. For the kitchen you have to go down the steps towards the bathrooms and then walk about 50m to your right.

Walking from number 37, you have to pass number 62 and 61. (look at the last photo's) you will see number 62 with the red door, and then you will see a a dark colored car behind it. That car was parked right next to the ablutions.

The kitchen that will be closest to number 37 will be the one on top. If you look at the second picutur you can almost see the kitchen through the wooden fence. So you have to walk around the back of your hut to get to the kitchen but it's not so far. Maybe closer than the bathrooms

So if I could choose, I would go for number 37  Enjoy

Thank you for you prompt reply and general advice on the forums Roaneric!

Having 3 tabs open and switching between the map, the photos and your explanation of the map and photos I have a pretty good picture of what is where now.

I will call tomorrow and try to book number 37 as you suggested. If it is not available, I will take whatever is available as they all appear to be fairly near each other and one can not allow such a small thing to spoil a holiday in Kruger!

Six months to go but can`t wait

I hope the pool is also not as far away as it looks on the map.You will be hot and tired returning from cooling down in the heat of the day!

We spent 2 nights in #31 in 2011.

It's really not too far from the ablutions.

Only 2 negatives of the unit:
*1 - Parking is not alongside the bungalow, so you'll need to carry luggage up and down the stairs.
*2 - Very little light outside the front door. If you're planning to braai in the evenings, make sure you've got a headlamp, or something similar.

These are not really worth complaining about... Just a heads-up to prepare.

Roaneric:
We booked for 13 to 16 December 2013.

We will be staying at a resort just outside CB for the week of 6 to 13 December and will ( hopefully ) also be doing some full day trips from there.
Four days / 3 nights @ Pretoriuskop should be more than enough to take it easy with a few shorter morning and afternoon drives and just relaxing at the pool the rest of the time.

Planning is half the fun of the trip thank you!

Guzz:
Thank you for the additional information.

Parking distance and terrain from parking to unit can be very important for some people, especially if you have " more experienced / mature " people in your group.

I have just called Pretoriuskop and was told that unit 37 is no longer available to the public as it is used to house the interns  ( must have been a good unit then ) and I booked unit 31 but thinking about trying unit 28 now if the parking is next to the unit.
Lighting is not a problem as I have at least 3 torches / headlamps within reaching distance at any time
Unit 39 is also a EB2 unit now according to the lady I spoke to.

Like you said Guzz, these are nothing to complain about, but it is nice to know and be prepared for.

Pieter

Hi

I looked back at some of our pictures. We stayed in number 28 a few years ago. I just realised number 28 is not a bad unit. Right inbetween the bathrooms and kitchen. I would change to that, rather than 31, because you can park near your hut.

The very friendly and competent officials @ Pretoriuskop just confirmed that we have been allocated unit 28 in the place of unit 31
Now for some more planning and more questions and answers on the other forums / topics!

Hi all

Im almost on my way to kruger again. Only 16 sleeps till we fly to South africa and 27 till we enter Pafuri gate.

I was looking through the accommodation pictures, trying to find out what types are still missing, and I thought I'll have some fun and make some video clips. So if someone want's to get the general idea of the view of how a camp or picnic spot looks like, you can just clic on play. I will add them to the first page as I finish them all.

If someone want's to know how a spesific unit or tent looks like, just pm me, and I will try my best to post a picture of it on my return. We will be staying / visiting the following camps....

Punda Maria
Shingwedzi
Sirheni
Bateleur
Mopani
Letaba
Balule
Olifants
