Interesting question! Many moth species, especially those that are members of the family Noctuidae and Arctiidae (Noctuidae are the most abundant family) have "ears" on the top of their thorax. These ears allow them to detect echolocating bats from as far away as 100m by detecting the sound waves. They then have two different responses, (1) if the bat is nearby the moth will show zigzag or looping flight, dive or even just simply passively fall out the way of danger; (2) those moths which are far away will turn around and fly away from the hunting bat.

I had no idea and unfortunately consulted google :redface: and found this Philip1 :big_eyes:

It's an interesting story how ladybugs got its name. Around 500 years ago farmers had problems with insects killing some of their crops. The farmers started praying to the Virgin Mary. Soon beetles swarmed in and ate the bugs that was destroying the crops. In honor of Virgin Mary they are now called Ladybugs :big_eyes: :hmz:

:thumbs_up: Phillip1 :lol: :lol: I know..... Books etc etc are fantastic, in my world - google too quick and easy and sometimes feels like cheating :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: (to me) that's all :lol: :lol: We learn something everytime we read something, it doesn't matter where we read it :thumbs_up:

What do Stick insects sometimes do/or are capable of doing, to escape attacks by predators?
