Thank you for the kind comments...appreciate them all

On our way back we stopped at Unie End Picnic spot and found fresh Lions tracks realizing that they were at the Picnic spot just after we left the morning. The only one left was a bird looking for scraps.
Don't know the ID, but think it must be part of the Robin family

Image

It was a long day and we spotted 4 Lions +- 200m from the waterhole at Kousant under a tree. The one young Male suddenly started staking our car. Manage to get same great shots.

My immediate thought was he is one of the well known Lions that damages the tourist cars , but he walked past us to the waterhole.

Kalahari Scrub Robin. They are one of my favourites from the KTP.

Beautifully captured lion images!

I am humble for all the positive comments...Thank you

It was an amazing day to Unie End and back, but to top it all we stopped just before the camp to witness, enjoy and smell our first raindrops on our trip.

Image

The afternoon after a dust storm the rain came down and what a sight.

Image

We went for a afternoon drive to appreciate the wonders of the Kgalagadi.

Image

It almost looks as if the Nossob river is in flood.

Image

The poor Jackal didn't like it very much, but maybe he was glad the heat was broken.

Image

Image

Looks like the Springboks seen it all before.

Image

Goshawk after the rain shower.

Image

...and to top off one of our best days, the the most beautiful rainbow we have ever saw.

Image

Day 6 to be continued...

All I can say is thank you for your kind comments and joining me on a wonderful trip.

Day 6:

As usual we were one of the first cars out of the gate and with the fresh smell in the air after the rain. Our mission today was to spend some time at Cubitje Quap. We new the Sandgrouses would only arrive from 7h00 and decided to first drive a few Km north and look for our Brown Hyenas from yesterday.

No Hyenas, but only a Gemsbok,Jackal and Ostrich at Bedinkt waterhole.

Image

Image

Personally these are two of my best Jackal images....just love the comp and stare !

Image

Image

Back at Cubitje Quap we ensures we had a great spot and waiting for the action.

First to arrive were Doves.

Image

Al the other role players were there.

The ever present Jackal.

Image

Chanting Goshawk.

Image

Gabar Goshawk.

Image

To be continued...hope we will get lucky...

Manged to get some great images of him posing at the waterhole. (My first sighting and images)

Image

Image

Take off...

Image

The Jackal tried,but missed again...

Image

A Martial Eagle was watching from high above the waterhole.

Image

Thank you for the comments

Not many Sandgrouse visited the waterhole (maybe still water around after the rain)

Luckily a few tried there luck with the Jackal and Goshawk around.

Image

Image

The Jackal tried every trick in the book with no success.

Stalk them...

Image

Hide in the waterhole.

Image

Image

Give up and relax with a big yawn.

Image

Maybe tomorrow he will have better luck.

Thank you all for the comments...appreciated

Lionspoon well spotted....yip definitely not a Martial Eagle, tx for the correct ID

We spotted the Bateleur near the camp.

Image

The Kgalagadi is not all about the animals and to be part of a huge dust storm is something to remember.

The afternoon the wind start picking up and thunder clouds building.
We faced the full power of the dust storm.

Image

Image

and then it started raining...

Image

Image

We were glad for the break from the heat and headed back to camp.
Where else can you sit back, look into the fire and reflect back on another wonderful day in paradise .

Again thank you for all the kind comments.

The next day it was overcast and very cool for December and we didn't mind after the hot weather we experienced the past few days.

We were 500m from the gate when 2 Lionesses walk over the road (not sharp with the bad light, but love the low angle)

Image

Image

At Bedinkt waterhole, a Red Hartebeest and Gemsbok were busy licking the salt.

Image

Nearby a Goshawk (I think the ID is correct, but not sure) was posing for a few shots.

Image

Take off...

Image

On our way back to camp the only decent sighting was a Black-shouldered Kite.

Image

It was time to make brunch, enjoy the cool weather and rest after yesterday's long trip to Unies end and back.

To be continued....more dust storms and rain...

We were relaxing at the Guest house when my son spotted a African Wild cat in the camp trying to catch a squirrel.

Image

We decided to visit Marie se draai on our afternoon drive.
First we saw a Lappet-faced Vulture on the ground posing for a beautiful portrait.

Image

At Marie se draai we found a Bateleur busy taking a bath.

Image

Image

Image

The wind start picking up and found ourselves in the middle of a huge dust storm again.

Image

Only a few drops fell and we were blessed with our last night at Nossob with a beautiful rainbow.

Image

To be continued......on our way to Mata Mata.

Thank you for the comments.

Our next stop was Mata Mata for 2 days.
We were packed and our final memory of Nossob was a early morning rainbow with the son rising to create these beautiful colours.

Image

After the rain the Springboks starts returning to the river beds.

Image

To make up time (only allow to book in at 14h00) we spent some time watching and photographing the Squirrels playing in the Auob river.

The baby.

Image

Nothing better than Mothers milk.

Image

Love the depth of field effect.

Image

Image

Play time..

Image

The Sprinkboks got spooked and the running herd posed for a great image.

We saw our first Hyenas near Urikaruus relaxing in the shade. Over the next few days they stayed at the same place.

Young Hyena.

Image

The light was harsh but love the effect.

Image

The Auob river is the place to photograph young Pale Chanting Goshawks looking for food.

Scanning the area and focus

Image

Another first for me,on many trips to KTP was this young and lonely Warthog.

Image

It is not always about the large animals and we spotted a Ground agama on his favorite spot scanning the area for predators.t

Image

Goshawk take off against a beautiful cloud background.

Image

Our first Giraffe on our trip.

Image

There is a large colony of breeding Vultures in the Mata Mata area.
