Happy to introduce two new named tuskers for Kruger NP

DUNGILE (Babalala - Shingwedzi area) and Mavumbye (Satara area)

DUNGILE
I met this promising tusker near Babalala picknick spot so in a unique moment for me I could pose together with him and make photo's of him being outside my car.

You can see he was curious who was looking at him

MAVUMBYE

I met this promising tusker just outside Satara camp and a few days later near the S90 but a bit further away.

Easy to recognize with his floppy right ear.

Both new named tuskers are named after a little spruit like I follow the old kruger way of naming , like waterhole, river, spruit... where they have been recorded / photographed first.

Hi Aat,

Here is a photo of the floppy eared tusker we saw at Ngotso on 11/06/2012.

Could it be Mavumbye ?

Thanks Aat - Now floppy ear has a beautiful name - Mavumbye !

I like your naming convention - streams and waterholes - they sound so fitting to KNP.

Also like the photo of you and Dungile together - one can see this Elephant Whisperer
has been accepted as a citizen of KNP.

Lettie and Gerrie.

Always the first thread I come to look at whenever I get a chance to surf the forum. Awesome tuskers as usual. Hope to find some when i go to Kruger in May.

I have been going through some old tusker photos and found the below two photos by my daughter Lizz.

We found this elephant far out to the east of the S90 a few kilometer north of the S41 junction.

Pardon the quality - the elephant was some 500m out in the veld and the photo was taken with a small pocket camera.

Wonderful sightings Impisi08 ! ! !

You can go to Aat's website http://www.tuskersofafrica.com/ to ID the tuskers - the last one is
"Marhumbini" for sure. [ He seem to frequent the "Tihongonyeni" area.]

Your second tusker is most likely "Sibotwana", but I think Aat will be better qualified to ID him.

The first tusker is quite interesting - I cannot ID him from the photos on Aat's web site although
he look a lot like a similar but unidentified tusker we had seen in the same area some 3 years
ago, but we will have to wait for Aat to ID him.

Impisi08,
Great catch with these tuskers

Like 100ponder said , last one is Marhumbini.
Glad to see him again... he is a bit more special to me since I met him several times at very small distance. :) :)

The other ones I am not sure... second one could be Shibotwana, but I can't see the hole in his left ear.

Please can you send the pictures to me in larger format ? So I can try to see the details better..

Thank you 100ponder and Aat. I have sent the photo's to you, Aat, including one where you can see the left ears of the "H6 elephant". I don't think it is Shibotwana but maybe I am wrong.

Thanks for sending the photo's Impisi08,
I checked them and idd it's not Shibotwana. Differences in ear and tusks. The other one you sent is also not a named one yet, but I'll keep all pics in my database and will check later on if I have more pics of these bulls.
If you find some time please send me the Marhumbini picture(s) so I can update his page with your recent sighting of him.
