I have phoned various camps in the past for bungalow requests and never had a problem but maybe I was lucky and "hit" the right camps or the person answering the phone.
Have also e-mailed where possible and mostly received a mail back with confirmation, but understand it must be very frustrating when this doesn't work.
Will try and check e-mail addresses for camps.

I think These e-mails addresses will be useful.
I know it says NOT for reservations but if its just a bungalow request then that is what the reservations offices tell us to do.

Well actually it isn't a norm, it is always done at the camp's discretion. It's not a right and it can't always been done.

Agreed. They try to do it as part of customer service excellence.

I have never been refused, and I contact the camp 2 weeks before arrival.

Based on comments by other Mites, phone Orpen about three weeks before you go and request that specific unit

Calling three weeks in advance might be enough for Orpen ... :) :)
But the friendly people at Lower Sabie required a faxed request from me for our stay there during May 2013. So it might be well worth it to call sooner rather than later. (BTW: we will also spend some time in Orpen come May 2013) :D

I requested a specific unit at Olifants for October by calling their office, but was asked by the friendly person at reception to fax a written request to them asap, which I did.
I'll only be able to confirm if the unit was allocated a week before our stay.
Holding thumbs!
When I requested a specific unit at Pretoriuskop earlier this year a phone call was enough and they confirmed it for me immediately.
It might have been a bit closer to our arrival though.
The camps differ in their procedures I think.
It also helps to give them n alternative if they can't give you the requested unit.

Hello,
I just reserved two specific units, first by calling the camp where I was asked to send an email to a person at SAN Parks. After a couple of days I got confirmation that I had been successful.
Good luck

Agree, SeanP :D

Have a look at the photos and comments in the LOWER SABIE section of the very helpful and great Accommodation photos thread, Nimrod.

Have a look through Index to Best unit numbers
Its still a work in progress but can give you some idea in the mean time but as Stoffel has rightly said, they are all great.

Morning, I wonder if you guys can help me.

next week I want to book unit numbers for my trip first week in Feb as I have heard that one is able to reserve specific unit numbers two weeks before the actual booking with the camp, yet I am unable to find the correct camp details. I have found on the Sanparks page with camp details it states at the top that the details are "Not for Reservations!"

Would someone be able to help?

I am staying in Shingwedzi (EH3) and Letaba (BG3U) and Tamboti (CTT2)

Many thanks

Hi K-4S,

All that means, is that you can't phone the camps to make reservations, you need to phone Central reservations or one of the other methods to make your booking.

As Carol stated, phone the camp and ask for the unit you want, they will then indicate whether still available or not. I've phoned up to a month before my booking date to ask for a specific unit.

Enjoy your trip.........

Some camps might want the request in writing (email or fax). I requested a specific hut in Balule and the main camp (Olifants) asked me to send my request by fax

E-MAIL the best. Send a request as soon as you book don't wait. These days if you wait somebody will already have booked.

I send e-mail requests to all camps the day I make a booking and within two days I will have received replies

I always just call the number listed on the camp's contact page and speak to whoever answers. I've never had any problems doing this :)

Staff do get moved around in the park from time to time so often the e-mail doesn't get to the right person but Graham if phoning is not an option maybe try sending a mail to the Hospitality manager which is what I do when requesting specific accommodation.
