Hi all, my daughter is mad about elephants !!! She has just spent a month in Chang Mai at the rehab centre and talks ellies day and night.
She lives in Jersey Channel Islands and is coming here middle 2 weeks in May and we have to take her to a camp where we can see the lovely beasts morning noon and night.
I have a Card for the wife and I and am looking for advise about Self catering accomodation that won't break our pension money completely !!??
What camp ? Any specials on price ? Midweek or weekends ? Stay outside the park ? Past December we stayed in Graskop but a bit of a slep every morning. Year before in Hazyview but a crush at the gate every morning. :? :? :?

I would recommend Mopani, Letaba and Satara.

First Question .. Are you pensioners ?? if so take advantage of the pensioner discounts in May
Ellies well plenty around Malelane and Letaba .
Your daughter will have to buy her own Wild card. It means about 7 days in the park to make it worthwhile .
Oh and do enjoy

I am an Elephant fanatic too!

There are loads of Ele's in Kruger, and you can have good sightings anywhere.

The north is known to be prime Ele country.
But you can still have good sightings down south.
The Skukuza/Lower Sabie Road is very good for Elephant sightings. I saw plenty there on my recent trip in December.
And the bridge over the Sabie River (H12) produced one of the best Elephant sightings I have ever had.
We stopped on the bridge itself, and there were literally hundreds of elephants moving down the river/flood plain towards us, and they then started coming up the embankment at the end of the bridge in front of us, and then down the other side. We spent hours watching them.

I would go for Letaba. She will enjoy spending some time in the elephant museum there.

Hope you have a great trip.

Looks like Letaba it is then. Bungalow type BD3 seems to be what we need ? Not too hot on booking online but they seem available for the nights of 12,13,14 May ?
R845 plus R186 per night ? Less 20 % for us 2 sound about the right price?
Much obliged for all this help,
Duncan

The biggest ellies are way up north of Letaba of course , and you are sure to see some of the real heavies there .

All the 3bed units are in a crescent starting next to the restaurant/shop, with no 32 - 37 then they are 'set back' until no 58-64.

But none is far to walk to the magnificent walkway along the river bank. THere are no buildings inbetween.

Have a look here for photos of accommodation.

Just click on the BD3 under Letaba to have a look at what the view from that unit will be and how the accommodation looks like.

Enjoy your stay and I do hope you'll get to see some lovely tuskers...........

2) Shingwdzi/Punda Maria area (Biig and Wild ones :|)
3) Mopani area - see number 2 but just add sometimes in front

Well what a good idea ! That video is great.

ps. Wife told me to stop planning now……. I always over do things, like planning meals at Haenertsburg already.

Live dangerously she says, go with the flow, stop thinking it through..
