Thanks for the kind words of advice BB. You're absolutely right, and fortunately we're quite keen birders (well, I used to be in a previous life), and my sis and hubby know their trees and butterflies too, great spotters, so we can't go wrong! I'll certainy share our experiences with you all.

Can anyone tell me anything about the "all day drives" that are talked about in the activities?
I tried contacting sanparks by email to ask costs, which camps etc but they obviously didn't understand my query.

Hi impyim :yaya:
Maybe this link can help?
http://www.sanparks.org/parks/kruger/tourism/activities/default.php
Then just click on what type of activity you want to be part of...

I haven't heard of all day drives before. But why not drive yourself? After all, who wants to sit in a vehicle the whole day with total strangers who might not be interested in the same things as you. And, we also drive on the left side of the road :D It will probably cost you less to hire a car for the trip than what a whole day guided drive will cost you.

I do agree with you Rooies!
You can then sit with sightings as long as you want and then go the routes you want to take as well as visit every picnic site, much better doing a day drive yourself :D

I agree with this, rather go for the self drive option and go by instinct, if the road to the left looks interesting, then take it, you never whats around the corner! If want to go on one of the guided drives, go on a sunset drive or night drive.

impyim, do yourself a favour and hire a car for your trip to the Kruger, you can drive whatever routes you chose to, you can sit at a sighting as long as it suits you,you can visit a particular spot more than once if you wish to

I agree totally that self drive is the best option. The reasons have been given to a great extent!! Enjoy!

I will look at all the sites you've mentioned to find out more.

Sorry I forgot to tell you all that we have hired a car and love doing our own drives. We are in Kruger for 18 day and our Gnraddaughter and her friend have hired a car for the 12 days they're in Kruger. We will all be at the same camp for 4 days and thought it would be great to have a game drive together (both the hired cars don't really accommodate 4 people with any degree of comfort).
The article re. the all day drives on sanparks website also states that the drive takes you to places the public aren't normally allowed into - which we thought would also be different.
So now you know why I am enquiring about all day drives -

impyim, I hear what you say and why you enquire, but I doubt if it will make such a big difference to your trip go to the places the public are normally not allowed into. Any spot in the Kruger is always special  , so maybe look at booking a Sunset drive where you can all go at once. Just a suggestion.
Wishing you an awesome trip with lots of wonderful sightings

impyim, I saw the all-day option as well, and couldn't help thinking it's a wonderful opportunity for a potentially different experience. I've managed to organise an all-day drive from Mopani. Who knows what this will bring...........I'll pm you with how I went about this - quite easy to arrange.
