Great photos Jan. We were also in the park at the end of November and beginning of December 2012. We also noted the many Eland carcasses. I believe that many of them were by killed lions. With the Eland coming to the waterholes espescially at night the lions were waiting for them. We saw this one morning at Houmoed. When we arived at the waterhole we saw that lions had killed 3 Eland. They had only eaten the one, leaving the other 2 virtually untouched.

It seemed that this had happened at the other waterholes as well. We also saw the Eland carcass on the lower dune road of which you posted a photo. Late one afternoon at Kij Gamies we saw 10 lions at the waterhole. At the time there was no Eland carcass on the road. The next day we found the partially eaten Eland carcass not far from the waterhole which was obviously killed the previous evening.

Thanks for your report.

Thank you for your kind comments...Super Mongoose....Sheenaugh-Lee.....Pumbaa.....Meandering Mouse.....Aristocat... anne-marie.....Trrp-trrrrrrrr.....hilda and Div.Comments and views appreciated

Div thank you for the info about the dead Eland. We wondered why no scavengers started eating them and suppose they can only eat so much.

Young Goshawks are always busy on the ground looking for food. This one took a break and allowed me to capture this one against a beautiful background.

We also spotted a Kudu not often seen near Twee Rivieren Camp.

We had a amazing morning drive and could not wait for the afternoon drive, but first it was time to lay low with the temperature above 40 degrees.

Afternoon drive to follow...

So kind of the bird to pose so beautifully  I am always amazed at how a good photograph looks so effortless.
