Do they cry? No
Do they shed tears? It depends on what you consider to be tears.
Fact is that crocs cannot chew and they have to rip off chunks of meat to swallow. As luck would have it, the glands that keep their eyes moist are near their throats. So when they swallow, the 'tears' are forced out, giving the impression that they are crying.

So it is a myth, crocs don't cry.

The phrase that implies expressing fake emotion actually comes from an ancient fable that crocodiles weep while both luring and killing their prey. In reality, crocodiles can’t chew, so they are forced to rip their food into chunks and swallow them whole. As luck would have it, the glands that keep their eyes moist are right near their throats, so their eating habits actually force tears into their eyes. MYTH VERDICT: TRUE/FACT

Phil, it must be a myth. The question was, do they cry? Although water comes out of its eyes, they are certainly not crying. Crying is associated with emotion and I don't think a croc is crying when he is eating. If a croc is filled with emotion while eating, he should be laughing. (Although I was crying when mom forced the spinach down my throat)

Your remark about water coming out of your eyes refers. If you slice onions, water also comes out of your eyes, but you are not crying. According to the Oxford dictionary cry means to produce tears from your eyes because you are unhappy or hurt.

Both  for the answer and  for the question, Rooies.

Penguins will only fall backwards when looking at airplanes if they were in free fall; and since penguins very seldom get to fly at 30000 feet, this is almost always (tending-towards-infinity-almost-always) a myth. There seems to be a greater chance that the sun will expand beyond the earth's orbit than penguins performing such a feat (unless some scientist chucks them out of an airplane to prove a point), so - though I'm temped to form a discursive essay here - due to lack of suitable double-blind studies, I'll sadly have to stick with my original gut-feel that this is a myth.

Jislaaik OWN, I will have to phone a friend to translate 'al daardie hogere Ingels' From the 'bietjie' I understand, you intend chucking a penguin out of a Boeing and send it on an orbit around the earth with a stick in his gut.

But, have you ever seen a penguin walking backwards? They have no toes facing backwards so how does the poor penguin balance itself when he follows a plane flying over?

:funny:

So, Rooies, you mean it could be a fact? Of course, that's all assuming that penguins actually care about and stare at planes flying overhead. :hmz: Guess we'll have to pop off to Boulders and watch those penguins and see what they get up to.

Fact or Myth: A solid object is made up far more space and nothingness than actual matter?
