Well we will arrive at JNB on the 8th of March and drive up to Letaba for 2 nights then down to Orpen for 1 night then down to Pretoriuskop for 2 night. Then back to JNB to come back to Texas. I know the drive to Letaba from JNB is going to be long. But never been in that part for any time. Will have my 8 year old grandson his mom and 2 others. Am so ready to go. This will be the longest time in Kruger for me.

Wow Frosty1, what a long way you have to come, think you should stay longer, 5 days is just enough to want to stay another 5 days....

Me and Skillie (my SO) will also be in Kruger during March and can't wait!

I agree especially seeing as your flying so far to come here, 5 days is definitely not enough, hope you get to see all you wish for and have a ball :)

How well I know that 5 nights in Kruger is way to short. When I normally come over to RSA it is to
visit with fellow Ham Radio guys and to go do ham radio in Botswana or down in Lesotho. As soon as I win the Lottery here in Texas I will come over and stay there for a long time.

I am worried that 10 days in KNP and 12 in KTP isn't going to be enough
It is a big deal to fly that far, better to take as many days as I can afford

But I would take 5 days over nothing
My first trip was only 2 nights as I was filling in days between some other things
That got me hooked

Judik, sometimes I wonder why I don't go to knp more....I mean, it's just 400km away!! Was watching a program just now on tv about africa's deadliest creatures and it must seem so amazing to foreigners to be here living in Africa, and it is!!!! Hahaha, I always laugh when they talk about the boomslang on tv:-)

Well time is getting closer to flying out of Houston. Since we arrive at 0830 and pick up a vehicle I am thinking if we get out from the airport by 1100 will be good. We then meet my friend Roger Jones ZS6RJ to get our Ice chest and American Dr Pepper he is getting for us at a Spar we head for Hazyview to spend the night. This Old Man goofed so we are staying at the Ashbourne Hazyview and head into the park via Phabeni gate or Kruger gate. Then drive up to Letaba for 2 nights. Back down to Orpen for 1 night then to Pretoriuskop for the last 2 nights. Will have yellow ribbon on the mirrors. My 8 year old grandson is very ready to make the trip. He was looking at the car that was flipped by the Ellie and said will that happen to us? His mom said I dont think so as PawPaw will not get that close. any know what frequencys the tour drivers use for their spotting reports? Is any done in English? I know that they are between 150mhz and 160mhz.

:D

Frosty1, tour operators are not permited to share sightings in Kruger (but they often do).

The camps that you are staying in should provide you with enough spontaneous sightings, which are always better than 'told' sightings.

Hey Frosty, have a safe trip and don't pack to much....

I agree with BB, your own sightings are soooo much better that the ones you were told off and chased down. If the notice boards say lions to the North, go South!

The H7 to Orpen always delivers something, in October we saw a Cheetah and cub 1,4km from Opren in drenching rain, could almost not believe it. Drive slow, super slow and you will see so much more!

Around Letaba there will be less sightings, but just to be in Letaba is enough, last April we saw more in and around the camp than on the roads. Do visit the Matambeni Bird hide!

Nest week this time we will be in Kruger too!

 Of course will drive slow for sure. There were times when had some ham radio friends with me and they would go to sleep while I was driving. I would pull up next to a good sighting and sit there then wake them up. It was so funny to watch them dive for the cameras and start taking pictures. My daughter has a extra camera and batteries. We will not pack heavy for sure. I only am bringing my back pack and daughter is only bringing one checked bag for here and grandson. Niece and her hubby will also pack lite.
