But the very best sighting of the day was yet to come. It had been a VERY slow and quiet day – I even retreated to taking photos of trees as there had been nothing else on our afternoon drive (or at the camp during rest time). We were already back on our way to the camp when I saw something in the corner of my left eye. First I had thought it was just a dead trunk sticking out of an equally dead tree. But I made SO stop and reverse and reverse and reverse. And there it was: My first self-spotted owl! And sitting out in the open:

This would be our last night in the park and we were blessed to share it with rjm. Apart from the enjoyable conversation we were also treated to a delicious braai with kingklip and some fresh greens on top of it. It was an absolutely wonderful evening - thanks, R.

You had good luck with the AWCs, the giraffe is a stunner, a real dream come true.

Jan and I'll be in KNP in September with SOs and another couple. But I got a cold a couple weekends ago and ended up reading a ton of trip reports -- got infected with KTP fever so bad I impulsively tried for accommodations and got exactly what I wanted. So KTP is on for December/January. And I can't wait.

More great shots  especially the birds flying overhead. I have a hard enough time following them with binoculars, let alone a camera

WOW! on the bookings. Uri sold out in 10 minutes   No wonder we have such a hard time getting anything. We thought of getting up in the middle of the night, but didn't want to be on hold on the phone paying long distance charges from Canada. I guess we should be happy that we managed to get 2 nights at Uri. Maybe with the new rules in place things might work out a little better next year

Thanks to RichardJ for translating BCSE  That one had me confused too. :?

Hope you feel better again by now! But, ag shame, then our paths won't cross again.
At least not this time around. However, with KTP nutters you never know.
