Correct, the Orpen streaming video is not working at the moment via the website (I checked via Firefox and IE) BUT the Orpen Webcam is online and I think the problem might be on the video server itself. Another test we are running at the moment does however work. We will take it up with the service provider looking after the US video server.

Orpen Live Streaming is operational again

It looks like there is a problem with international connectivity at the moment via our ISP. Bear in mind the video streams from the webcams are transmitted to the USA from both webcams to the server in the USA from where you are able to view it. This problem was logged with our ISP (Internet Service Provider) to resolve and I really hope it is resolved very soon!

Waiting for the Live cams to return and will in the meantime enjoy the static cams....

...and just to make this Friday afternoon a bit more fun, we have lost connectivity to Orpen Webcam which is not related to the other problem. The local link to Orpen seems to have gone down now..so the static image of Orpen is also down now...

Has the Addo Cam gone a bit out of line?

Addo webcam seems to be fine after a few reboots... The preset program tour for some reason stopped working...seems to be ok again!

Some feedback on the webcams' status:

* Orpen - still a microwave communication issue to the area (telecom company)

* Satara - the webcam is online, alive and well but a firewall issue is preventing the server in LA to get the image from that cam specifically. The firewall company is working on that

* Nossob - running!

* Addo - running!


We are very frustrated with this situation and we are breathing in the service providers' necks to sort this out!

You will notice that the Satara webcam goes 'down' several times a day at the moment.

The problem is between Satara rest camp itself (base) and the webcam at the water hole. There is a wireless connection running (around 100m) and that gets interrupted now and then. I suspect that a shrub or tree/branch has grown and might be obscuring the clear LOS (line of sight) of this link causing these interruptions. It might also be the wireless transmitter linked to the webcam at the water hole itself. This equipment is standing in the harsh African sun and must be able to handle it as well

We are looking into the problem to resolve it.

The flood light at Satara has been switched off (for now) as it is tripping the power to the water hole (also taking down the power to the webcam). Technicians were at the waterhole today (with a "not so impressed" elephant watching them - you might have seen the rangers with rifles keeping an eye on the safety of the technicians!).

and the elephant finally turned his back on the rangers and technicians (see top right hand corner of the next image) - Thanks Super Mongoose for capturing these images...)

Electricians will be looking into the problem which might be related to the wet weather experienced the past week or so. Water might have sneaked into the electrical feed to the flood light, causing the earth leakage to trip. It was decided to switch the flood light off until the electrical problem can be traced and repaired and at least keep the power up to the webcam itself. The water hole is vaguely visible in the available moonlight!

Orpen seems to be fine - full view available. Perhaps when Vinkie checked, there might have been a problem although we did not change anything... I'll keep an eye on Orpen's angle of view! Thanks for letting us know Vinkie!

What I mean about the angle of Orpen Web cam is that we are missing the lower half of the water hole...we get the top part and a general view.....the lower part isn't seen anymore I think... it is as if the cam is zoomed in
