Looks like a Jameson's firefinch to me. The red-billed does not have such a dark eye :hmz:

Anne-marie, what reference are you using to say that Jameson's Firefinch doesn't really occur in Kruger?

Have a look at the latest SABAP2 distribution map for the species at this link...

I use "SASOL" Birds of Southern Africa - third edition - p. 410.
As per the map, seems to be only in the North :?

yours seems a lot more detailled :D
thanks... so I can go with Jameson's Firefinch :D

Hi Everyone,
At Ngwenya Lodge just outside KNP in first week of July, on the verandah of unit 58, we saw a Jamieson's Firefinch eating seed off a seedtray, so we concur that they are in and around KNP.
What a delight!

Hi Anne-Marie

From top to bottom:

1 - Looks right for Jameson's Firefinch
