We were in KNP on the 9th of September 2012 and were driving along the H1-3 from Tshokwane to Satara when this guy crossed the road. Thi swas approximately 11:30. I don't have a clue what snake it was and hope that somebody could help me with it's ID from the pic's below

For those who DO know snakes, could you, while ID'ing Barryels's, help me with this one?

I saw it in september, crossing the main road to Punda Maria.




Is it a black mamba?

it sure looks like a BM to me! Hope someone in the know will confirm! In any case, great sighting!

MichaelWildtuin...thats a Black Mamba...look at the coffinshaped head as an important ID feature

@Barryels...what colour is that snake?
It appear to have a dark section on top of its head as well?

Barryels, the snake you photographed looks like a female boomslang. The males are normally green in that area, but the females are greyish/brown.

And yes, that looks like a very happy Mamba that Michael photographed

Can anyone ID this snake, seen near Timbavati Picnic Spot in the Kruger in November.

Hi barryels, it's a bit difficult to see what type of snake this is as I cannot identify any scale patterning. I did download it and edit it to the best of my ability and it could be a male Boomslang.

Do you have another close picture esp the head. Looks like a boomslang but not very sure.

Just thought I would throw this in the mix if anybody would love to learn something about snakes. I did this course a while back and it's great fun in probable the most scary way ever. Standing infront of a hooded rinkhals, having to handle it and knowing it can kill you, but then so can a 16 wheeler and I still go onto the highway.

They cover snake ID, Bite treatment and a afternoon of snake handeling. Don't get me wrong he doesn't teach you how to be come the next Nat geo wild star but what and how to move the snake to a save place (bucket) to relocate.

moet teach how to handle a Hooded Ringhalsie!!
That with makeshift tools nogal.

A braai tong type caliper with a bloudraad fork
taped onto some vleiriet. I use a sandblasting
container for transportation. It has a cone shaped
bottom making it difficult for ringhalsie to rear.

Somewhere in amongst all these threads there is
a picture otherwise I will gladly resubmit.
