Hi Katy :D :D

Hope you and Francolin had a wonderful Christmas and New Year

Catching up on your report, and just love your sleepy AWC in the tree and the ostrich in the road

For me though, it's your beautiful sunrise/sunset photos that take the cake :cam:

Katy, you can't just post happily away during holiday time -
so much to catch up upon again.

Still a Happy New Year to you and Francolin - hope 2013
is going to be great for the both of you! :gflower:

Your Roosterkoek looks yummy! I must take the recipe and
some spelt flour with me next time so I can finally try some
myself. Is it one package of instant yeast for roughly
300 gramms of flour that you used?

Your sunrise and sunset photos are awesome! I just so love
the Kalahari colours. :k

And then of course the owls!   8)

Thank you T-t, Tobieo, Pumbaa, barryels, wanderw, melph68 and LS :gflower:

@ Trrp-trrrrrrr
Many, many more Wildcats.....
It was unbelievable

@ Tobieo
Indeed a dangerous spot to take a dustbath

@ Pumbaa
Forgot to tell you we even added sunflower seeds to the Roosterkoek once, not bad too :hmz:

@ barryels
The Owls are always one of our favourites

@ wanderw
Thank you!
Wishing you, Mar and the whole family a super year 2013 too! :D

@ melph68
Thank you!
African sunsets and sunrises are always *BIGBIGSIGH*

@ LS
And thanx a lot for the New Years wishes!
Same to you and Spots!

Are you able to buy spelt flour in South Africa? Or do you have to carry it with you from Germany?!
One package usually is for roughly 500g, but I estimate that I only used about 300-350g each time.
Yeah the Kalahari colours..... And I am pretty green that you will be back to that special place so soon....

Sorry guys at the moment I am a bit slower....
Experiencing some computer problems at the moment, so am using my old Laptop which makes processing of the photos a bit frustrating... :wall:
But I am positive that there will be a next part soon...

Hi KDU
Just stunning shots of the thunderstorm and all the wonderful sightings

The pics of the AWC is awesome. They do not appear to be as shy as before or am I imagining it :hmz:

The recipe..... :hmz:

At Outdoor Warehouse you can buy the packet of Rosterkoek flour with all the correct measurements and just add water. You get 20 rosterkoeks out of each packet

Doesn't take up a lot of space too, as you can use just half a packet and leave the other half for the next day, giving you fresh hot rosterkoeks everyday

The Ostrich road block is also very special, as is the awesome Kori Bustard standing in the shade. Awesome pictures of the lovely AWC too! :D

Gorgeous sunset pictures, and the Eland sighting at the waterhole must have been gorgeous!

@ Sharifa
Thank you!
Well I think they were still very shy, but if you were the only car around they were pretty relaxed...
Thanx for the tip with the packet of Rosterkoek flour from Outdoor Warehouse
Unfortunately they are nowhere near Phalaborwa or Upington :|

@ hilda
The Eland sighting was indeed gorgeous...
We heard something at the waterhole and discovering that there was so many Elands :sup: w couldn't believe our eyes....

@ anne-marie
Our pleasure!

08.11.

Well after a good night's rest we enjoyed a cup of coffee with view to the waterhole.
Two Elands were coming to have a drink, they looked quite thin...

Image

Then we heard a strange sound, as something permanently drops on our car roof.
So we had a look...
And indeed we found lot and lots of small stones....

Image
Larger View

And soon found the culprit...

Image
Larger View

He tried to place little stones on the beams above our car, with little success, maybe he was trying o build a nest...

Image
Larger View

We observe a couple of Mongooses running around the tents, but they kept ignoring us...

Image
Larger View

Then we couldn't believe our eyes...
A flock of Ostriches was coming down the dune towards the waterhole.
We have never seen so many Ostriches in one spot..

Image
Larger View

Then it was time to go for a drive....
At Sitzas we found this Giraffe trying to have a drink from the basin...

Image
Larger View

Just south of Dalketh two Kudu bulls mock fighting...

Image
Larger View

Soon after that Wildcat #1

Image
Larger View

Just after we had left the 14th borehole loop, a Wood Hoopoe was looking for breakfast...

Image

Image

Then we spotted Wildcat #2

We turned at the 13th borehole and headed back to the Mata Mata direction...
Just beside the road we found a beautiful Tawny eating a Snake, I am not really sue what it was, but I think it must have a been a huge Mole Snake.

A Forked-tailed Drongo doing his best to ignore us...

And soon after that we found a quite grumpy Wildcat #3

To be continued......
