We also saw this kestrel which I'm not sure taken at extreme range and cropped heavily 2 days before in the same area.

It has a grey tinge to the head neck area Im debating on this as it is not the same bird
many thanks

Wingman,
This is a Lesser Kestrel, the red head with yellow bare parts and dark eyes, distingish this from Rock and Greater Kestrel. They are actually on the red data endangered list..

So nice sighting!

Hello everyone

I took the following two photos at the Paarl sewage works yesterday at 14:15 of a raptor flying high and fast. I think it is a Black-shoulderd Kite but the BSK has a white belly and this bird appears to have a slightly rufous belly. I know the hptos are not the best but could anyone confirm if it is indeed a Blkack-shouldered Kite?

The Squacco heron is still at the Paarl sewage works two birders told me yesterday.

Ross,
Brave call with that Lesser Kestrel but I agree. Not much else it could be.

Tilandi, I am not sure but because you asked me i'll reply. Its difficult to see the colour of their heads but the broad black band with the thin white on the end and the light under wing make it a Lesser Kestrel for me , but I might be wrong.

Difficult to say 100% Tilandi.. but I will agree with Ladybirder.. that dark black tail band is typical for LK.
