Spotted by Stephan

Stephan (Reporter) went to the ranger at Skukuza and confirmed with him the Brown Hyena sighting. So it is the first confirmed sighting of them in a long time.

Difficult to believe this. Though I would not mind if I am wrong.

I am not sure if this is where I should post this sighting, please remove it if it is wrong, on 21 December we were driving along the main tar road that runs from Skukuza to Pretoriuskop, we noticed a hyeana laying on the side of the road, we slowed down and noticed that its head looked very wet, when we looked more closely we saw that half its head was missing and it looked like it was dying. After many tears we came to the conclusion that it was either in a fight with another hyeana/lion or it was hit by a speeding car/truck   When driving that same route the next day we tried to find the hyeana but it was gone, does anybody know what really happened?

Could you see any other wounds or gashes?

I know a couple years ago I saw a lion attack and maim a hyena and on that occasion he went for the skull, took off a lot of skin and tore the hyena apart and left him barely alive and walked off as though nothing had happened.
I try my best and that's what matters I hope.

We did not really see other wounds or gashes because we did not stop for that long because I was very emotional and I did not want to see the hyeana in pain and in the state he/she was :(
