Can someone please help?

Is this a juvenile African Crake or perhaps a juvenile African Rail? :wall: Thanks :)

Hi Rosemary,

With those feet, it can only be a young Black Crake :D

Hi,

I saw the bird in the attached photos in early August in Kruger National Park in 2010. The pictures were taken from the Panic Lake hide. I identified this bird tentatively as a juvenile black crake, but I'm recataloguing my photos and that made me take another look at identification decisions made then. I'm not really confident with this id and I'd love somebody who has more experience with these birds confirm. I'm not entirely sure the two photos show the same individual, but these were the only rails/crakes seen on that occasion.

I apologize for the poor quality in particular of the second photo.

I can find no fault with your ID, kitefarrago. Red legs with long "thumb" or hind toe, yellow bill; uniformly dark-brown uppers with 'n lighter shade below and on the face... even a hint of light grey. And unless you had two juveniles, this was the same bird.
