I have heard of a massive croc in the Crocodile river which gave some trouble and was killed. Inseide they found some human remains: arm bangles and a watch. The croc was huge.
After loading it onto a bakkie it hanged off from the back.

The ranger that shot it couldn't get to the sides of it's body with outstretched arms.

A very bad inceident took place near Skukuza where some Park staff and friends were chilling out on the bank of the Sabie river. This was quite a time ago.

One guy (Surname was Ysel, I think) got attacked by a croc and was dragged to deeper water to be drowned, and torn apart via the deathroll as crocs do. He managed to hang onto some roots next to the bank and a friend of his was fortunately reacting to the attack and manged to stab the croc in the eye with a knife.

The croc let go and swan away. If I remember correctly the victim had to hold in his intestines with his hands and was in hospital for about 6-8 months.

I think the crocs in the Limpopo are definitely tasting some human flesh.

this was in a book "a gameranger remembers"...lovely book:)

I was driving over the bridge over the N'watinwambu (H4-1 - Lower Sabie - Skukuza) when I spotted this crocodile eating a snake. I think the crocodile was about 2 meters long.

Thank you, RosemaryH and Anne-Marie. I looked in my "Snakes & Snake bite in Southern Africa" book (Johan Marais) but I can not find a snake that matches this snake.

You don't have to worry about this. The crocodile ate the snake. It took about 45 minutes.

You didn't get a shot of the snakes head at all did you? It is difficult to say what it is - perhaps one of the cobra's?
Interesting sighting Impisi08   Thanks for sharing!! :D

Certainly not the easiest of snake identifications! My guess would be a large olive grass snake (Psammophis mossambicus), or possibly (but I doubt it) a Mozambique spitting cobra. The arguments behind my "guess" is that if the croc was about 2m like you stated, the snake must have been close to or over 1m. Its not a mamba, nor a boomslang, nor a snouted cobra. The dark markings around the scales do not look like a typical cobra though. What bothers me a bit is that the snake looks quite stocky for a grass snake, but I have seen a few grass snakes that lose their slender appearance. The only other option for me would be a rufous beaked snake, which also occurs in the area, but I am not familiar enough with those snakes to make a call.

Thank's for your input here BushSnake

45mins for a Croc to eat something that size is quite a long time, not?

The crocodile is eating a Rufous Beaked snake (Rhamphiophis rostratus) - a fast-moving diurnal snake that is quite harmless to humans.
