The museum section of the Stevenson-Hamilton Knowledge Resource Centre in Skukuza in the Kruger National Park (KNP) will shut down all operations to undergo a complete refurbishment. The section will be closed from today, 05 December 2012 until 30 June 2013. At the same time the library and its functions will not be affected by these renovations.

Stevenson-Hamilton Knowledge Resource Centre is one of the main attractions at Skukuza Restcamp for visitors and researchers. The centre has a museum where the KNP’s historic monuments are kept for public consumption and a library section with vast collection of reference materials. It hosts rich information on ecology, nature and conservation which assist in the management of the park.

“We would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused as a result of this temporary closure. We have deemed it necessary to give this museum a new outlook and to get rid of the obsolete structure. A new look will create an opportunity to add more information in the centre and change the way in which storylines are being told to be in line with latest trends” said Mr William Mabasa; HOD: Public Relations and Communication; KNP.

Those who would like to conduct research at the centre can contact either Itumeleng Khadambi on 013 735 4369 or Tumelo Sebola on 013 735 4139.

Sounds great! We thoroughly enjoyed our time spent in the museum and library on our visit in September. I could sit for hours reading in that library! Can't wait to visit again after the refurb!

What on earth is a "knowledge resource centre" and what does "current trends" mean? I was always under the impression that "museum" was a perfectly good word.

I do think that this is an underutilized resource. I am pleased that it is going to have a revamp. It really is a national treasure.

Could not agree more and I wish the refurbishment project team all of the best.

As long as "changing the way the storyline are told" does not mean changing the story then I'm all for it.
