Your trip report is very well written Welshboy, and your pictures are superb! So glad you have decided to share them with us! :D

Great shot of the Kori Bustard, and a beautiful Rhino series! Like the Elephants, they are very protective of their little ones!

The one at the bottom looks very irritated by the Vervets!

Cute little Bush Babies with their lovely big eyes!

The bush babies were something special as they seemed in no hurry to move and were watching us as much as we were watching them.

The 4 rhinos helped finish off a very good but long day, we were glad to put our feet up Crocodile bridge.

Thank you for your comments Hilda, the pictures are a family effort and we cannot wait until we are back out in the Kruger next year to get some more; though there will only be two of us next time round. My daughter will be studying for her final exams before heading for university and my son will be working on getting his chocolate business up and running. My SO and I are looking forward to quiet peaceful holidays from now on now our children have grown up.

Crocodile Bridge to Berg en dal

Day 2 dawned with far less cloud than the day before and we were out of the gate as soon as it opened. We had decided to drive up the S28, S137 and back down the H4 for breakfast back at Croc Bridge.

Heading up the S28 things seemed to be very quiet apart from a speeding safari truck but we eventually came across our first animals these 3 elephants heading for the sunrise the third one struggled up the low bank alongside the road.

We continued onwards coming across rhino either playing hide and seek behind a fallen tree or simply too far for a decent photo

Nearer the Nhlanganzwane dam turn we had a far closer sighting of rhino

Image

Image

Not only did we have rhino but moving on the skyline was a large elephant herd heading north at a pace

Image

Image

The rhino’s did not seem to like our company and soon headed off after the elephants, they appeared quite nervous about the cars that where there watching them. Not far away was this solitary warthog that also seemed uncomfortable about our presence closely followed by these giraffe that had not a care in the world apart from having breakfast. The zebra was doing his best not to be seen, it was our first one since seeing one just inside the gate

Image

Image

This was our first decent up close bird sighting, we’d seen a fish eagle on the Sabie river and some other vultures on the way.

More day 2 to follow soon
