We were in KTP in October and for the first time realized/experienced the clicking sound of the Eland. Awesome ..... almost all night long. From the +- 20 times I visited the Park I seldom saw Eland in the riverbeds - I mostly saw them in the dunes towards/back from Gharagab, Kaa or Mabua. I couln't believe the amount of Eland we saw this time round in the riverbed between Mata Mata and TR. I recon it is because most of the area between the 2 rivers is burnt down and therefore they moved to that area for food ? The lions had (is still having) a feast on these giants. Sometimes it almost looked like a small elephant in size. I just love them.

Oh, this place is one of the most special places on earth !! I am fanatically in love with this awesome gift from God. Please keep it this way.

@ Jan.Dup

The reason for the Eland being so far south in numbers have been discussed previously on another thread. They didn’t come so far down as a result of the fires we had. It is due to a phenomenon and the migration which they were use too years ago, also the fact that there weren’t so much water on the Botswana side. Most of the Eland returned to Botswana but the cows which gave birth while down south will stay for a long time still.

I too appreciate what you are doing very much, Jannie.

Now - has the park been very quiet lately or is it only you that have been busy?
We're all dying to see what's being seen every day!  :hmz:

(T minus 10 days until I set my feet in the red sand again  )

Jackal
Eland (Alive)

So if you are in the park and overnight in Twee Rivieren I would suggest that samevloeiing would be the place to be as the lions will hang around their kills.

Have a great day
