S33 Vutomi Road.

Unread postby christo » Mon Feb 19, 2007 10:46 am

Have seen lion there once (But I do not drive this road frequently).

Saw Leopard between Lugmagdam and Nhlanguleni on the S36 (+- 3 km's off S33)

Does anyone know what the reason is why the S33 is still closed. We're almost 3 months after the flood.....

But that area around Tsoks was hit very hard! Will 'report' your post and see if we can perhaps get an official response

Hi Cheetah,

Lugmag dam has been drained by the flood, as the wall is completly destroyed in its weier area.

I would love to know what the status is of the road, and also the dam itself after the floods, it was still closed last week.

It's definately also 1 of our favourite spots..... I realy don't know what is the reason why the road is still closed.
I will send an email to joep stevens. maybe he can try to explain.... :hmz:

Granny, going on the last report which was some time ago, it would seem then as if it had not yet been reopened.
I will try and get an update asap but Lesego is out of office for the next few days.

I drove past there on Sunday, and the road is definitely still closed. It is actually quite overgrown now, and you can hardly see the road anymore....

Thanks jb72!

It was such a densely vegetated road in any case so sure it would not take much for it to become overgrown. :?
Hopefully it will be cleared somewhat when they do finally open it again.

Thanks all, what a shame! Maybe they will not reopen road at all now. So sad, used to be a great road.

Agreed - it would be sad to see this road closed . Have good memories of lions bringing down a wildebeest in the middle of the road a couple of kms before Vutomi dam . For me Vutomi dam was the best waterhole for game in the entire park . What a pity it is not being built . In winter months there was a continuous flow of traffic to that dam , large herds of elephant , buffs , and often lion prides in attendance .
