MM, what with 'redundant' tent poles, you should write a book entitled Camping 101 - how not to do it.

Like the time I took camping novices to Croc Bridge.

We had trouble getting the pegs into the very hard ground.

"Not a problem", MM thought, "our weight will keep everything down.

The final night we had a gale of gales.    I wondered at some point whether I might have my tent ripped out from under me.

The tents all survived.. thanks no doubt due to our weight and the gin and tonics of my companions.

My brand new gazebo was no where to be found..... it was sitting on top of a tree.

Needless to say, that was one of my most expensive camping purchases ever. If I had to calculate its daily worth... R250/day :( :( :( :(

This was a stupid thing someone else did which we saw on our last trip...but we had to laugh!

We were heading out of Letaba on the river road one afternoon, cruising along at 30kph, minding our own business when coming towards us I see a little sedan with someone sitting on the window ledge of the passenger side hanging out the car!!

I was getting worked up and muttering stuff about law breakers ..... as the car drew closer and came level with us it was 'revealed' that the person who was hanging out the window was female and in case we weren't sure she was naked from the waist up and gave a good side to side chest wiggle as they zoomed past!!!

I was so taken aback that I didn't know whether to curse angrily or laugh my head off. I turned to SO in the passenger seat (who was looking rather bemused) and said 'Blimey (or words to that effect) what kind of sighting do you call that?'. To which he replied dead pan, ' twin white pointers!'
'Crikey (or words to that effect) white pointers in Kruger, must be a first, put it in the sightings book!'

Are we the only ones to have sighted white pointers in KNP? :hmz:

I think people should silently and quietly thoroughly enjoy themselves when in Kruger but they should not be too happy or else you get something like this

One day on the Letaba Stoep I was standing with my back to the river side facing the bedroom side of the Rondavel busy packing, unpacking and re-arranging our food stuff from the floor to the table to the fridge and my T-shirt left part of my back open from bending down and one of the Bokkies suddenly pressed her cold wet nose against by back where it was bare  @$%*. I forgot about the Bokkies in Letaba and their tendency to silently tiptoe up onto a person.

We always drive the S100 at the wrong time and are always in the wrong place on that road for lion and other sought after sightings  . When back in are Satara Camp we always hear about sightings of lions and more but always at the times and places that we were not there :? . But general game we always see in abundance on that famous road :D  .

Wow, only found this thread today. :o

One of the most worst or stupid things I have done in the Park, well are plenty basically but let me start with one story today and share more in the future.

Last November I was staying in Hazyview for the week and was entering Kruger every day, so this day I had a route planned of entering Phabeni Gate going to Skukz for Brekkie, followed by a quick stop at LS to buy some sandwiches for the day, and take the loop which exits around the H1-1 and drive to Numbi Gate and exit there. seems pretty easy in a days drive from 5:30 to 18:30 ryt. Not when I miscalculated everything :slap: :slap: :slap:  , As the evening approached I was on the H1-1 I saw the distance to Pretoriuskop being soo many KM's so I thought plenty of time left, so I spent some extra time with a clan of Hyena's and pups, than decided to drive to Sunset Dam which one other car was just exiting the dam, so there was nothing to spot so I carried on, so at the Dam decided to set my Sat Nav to Numbi Gate and had the shock of my life to find out that time of arrival shows 18:37    :slap: :slap: :slap: , I was thinking I swear I saw the KM's before, so decided to drive at speed limit of 50 all the way to Numbi Gate, but while driving and promising to myself that I will not stop for anything, 2 Male Lions appeared on the road, so now it was a case of either taking a pic or 2 or just carry on, but how could I not stop when 2 Lions are just so close to the car which is probably the biggest mistake of my life, so stopped and after finish taking the pics, I decided it was time to carry on, now the time of arrival shows 18:45       :slap: :slap: :slap: so now I was driving at over the speed limit which is very wrong and I am Sorry and will not happen again    only to be stopped by a traffic officer and yes I got a fine which was paid the following day, and I also got escort to the Gate, I only found out when I reached Pretoruiskop that there is a 10KM difference between Numbi Gate and camp :slap: :slap: :slap:    I learnt my lesson, next time set the Sat Nav system long time ago in order to keep track of time.
