And of course most car-hire places have their own emergency lines in case of breakdowns and will always be able to help.

Unfortunately if your rental car does get stuck in the KNP due to a mechanical fault you will have a wait for the replacement vehicle to arrive.
This is due to the fact that most of the rental companies will be based at Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport.
If you do want peace of mind the closest, as has been mentioned, is Avis in Skukuza.
I would hope that most of the big rental companies will have procedures in place to deal with a break down in Kruger.
Study the past, if you would divine the future.

Vehicle Hire Assistance

Unread postby MikeGoss2011 » Tue Feb 28, 2012 9:18 am

Hello all

Will be coming back to Kruger in April 2012 and we are a party of 4 largish adults. We currently have an Nissan X-Trail on order, but we were wondering if anybody knows where we might be able to hire something like the Toyota Fortuner, ( not with camping gear )

If you can help, please reply soonest

Thanks

Mike Goss

Our friends always use them too, although we use Holiday Autos.
I know of no problems with either and both seem cheaper than going direct with the rental companies.

Van with 4 (open) passenger windows

Unread postby bert » Mon Jun 18, 2012 10:58 am

Mites, need so advice here
Going to Kruger in October with my friends
5 persons and i want to rent a van
But seems that all vans these days do not have many passenger windows which can open for photography
Most only have 1 sliding on each side at the back
And i need 2 open windows for the passengers
Any suggestions or tips would be highly appreciated 8)

Tip: A brick or hammer, after taking out insurance.
I know of not a single van(-like thing) that has it.

Or you should look at a large 4x4 or Touareg which is able to seat 5.

Bert I was just thinking( though angels shouldn't think ) But why dont you hire a large fairly high off the ground car ( we have a qashqai ) with large wind down windows. and I am sure where you come from every second person going on holiday has those roof carrier thingies So you have the comfort of a car with comfy seats and most of the luggage is on top. Can you hire those carirers in SA I wonder ???

Which people mover / multivan to rent for safari's?

Unread postby DutchCanuck » Sat Jul 28, 2012 3:10 pm

4yrs ago we were in S.A. with the family (6 pers) and rented a VW-Microbus (T3) and loved it especially for the advantages on safari (everybody anywhere in the vehicle could enjoy open windows to see, hear, smell and photograph the wild). To my opinion this is f.e. not possiple in the Quantum-10 and/or VW-T5 or am I wrong?

Next year we're planning on visiting S.A. again with the same group and will be staying in the Limpopo/Mpumalanga-area and doing a lot of self-safari in Kruger etc. I'm looking for the T3-Microbus again. I have been googling myself silly but can't find it anymore as a rental.

Do you have any suggestions? Very important is that everybody in the vehicle (6 pers) can enjoy open windows on safari. What is THE vehicle to rent for 6 pers + luggage on safari?

Done the same thing and the minibusses do not longer have all windows which can be opened
I rented a Quantum
Has 2 on one side and on the other side 1 for the passengers
So some guys have to move from seat to seat.

Try the Nissan Primestar, it has all the windows that open. And it is comfy as well.

Hi,

I also have been using Car3000 for several years I have just rented one with them for our trip in November they have changed their name to rentalcars.com. We didn't come last year and I have just obtained a photo/paper driving licence, but certainly up to November 2010 we had no problems with the very old paper ones.

I'm looking for a peoplecarrier for 6 adults and luggage from J'burg for 21 days. It must have at least 3 rows of seats and windows that can open on at least 3 of those rows for optimal safari experience. I rented the VW T3 Microbus before for the exact same purpose and it was great but I can´t find it anymore. I´ve seen that the VW T5 for instance will not fit my requirements and I´m not sure about the Toyota Quantum 10 seater because I´ve seen that on some there are 3 rows of windows that can open and on some not. Suggestions?

I rented Quantum and it was fine
1 side 1 back window to be opened
other side 2 back windows to be opened
but we had room to move in the carrier to move
As far as i know the only carrier with 1 extra back row window, while all other brands only have 1 each side
We were 5 adults
