I have resurrected this thread

Was sorting out my junk and was cleaning some teaspoons etc that the MIL had collected over the years and found this one. Its silver plated and has the words Kruger national Park - kruger Wiltuin in the spoon section. MIL last went to the Park in the 1950s
Anyone seen one before ??

The designers name is engraved on the back of the spoon. It sells in the range of R100 to R250. I understand it was produced in the early 1950's. Ten years before my first visit.

Am sitting looking at one of my Kruger Park souvenirs from our first visit in the 1980s. It is a cotton `wall hanging`, about 86 cm x 34 cm. Shows map of Kruger Park and has pictures of various animals. It is hanging on the wall just above my computer monitor. Also have a sweatshirt I got in one of the camp shops - white, with groups of (small) rhino and elephant in black and beige. Agree with those who say souvenirs are not as nice these days - definitely felt that on last visit in 2006. Also other places than in parks, couldn`t get the same quality of small gift items as I did back then. Items that bring back most memories tend to be books, maps, etc. Whenever we went on a trip we would mark our route in highlighter, then we could `retrace` our steps later, once we were back home. (Only did this in SA for some reason - must be because it`s extra- special)

I have just come across this thread today - can you believe that I have not looked at it before. In the early sixties I remember seeing this set of three glasses for sale in the shop at Skukuza. My mate said to me that these would become collectors items one day. So I bought four sets of the three to make a round dozen. Today when looking for some memorabilia I found these in a display cabinet that we hardly ever look at. Now there are are 10. Where the other two went to is unknown to me.

I wish they would have made these glasses in the Big 5 series.

Lovely contribution, Richard and I remember them as my grandparents used them as beer glasses.

Thanks for sharing.

Kind regards.

Good morning Joep and thanks very much for your comment.

Joan is a great plate collector and we have in pride of place the full set of six plates from the "First edition of a series of six" with the map of Kruger Park on the reverse. There are others that look exactly the same as these on the front but there is no map of Kruger on the reverse, only a pic of a panda and the words "sold in aid of W.W.F.". I think the ones with the map are more rare to find. See below:

The most difficult one to find and the most expensive was the one with the springbok on. This is strange as there are no springbok in the Kruger????????

Another plate in this series is one from " 1st edition in a 2nd series of 4" of this roan:

Good morning Hugh. Jip, between Joan and I we have a huge collection. I also collect Dinkys, trains, 1/400 scale die cast airplanes, books , postcards, africana etc etc. The sad part is now that all the kids are out of the house we must downsize and this means having to sell off a lot of my collection.

Here are two plates that I have not seen much of:

And the back of one of these plates,:

Can anyone give me more information on these plates i.e. How many in the series, were they only sold in the Kruger etc etc. Unfortunately the elephant one broke in the post on way its way here.

Thanks Richard, yes, the springbok inclusion is interesting and someone would need to research that! I have quite a few plates but not the latter two. Very nice plates - the animal graphics (centre pics) corresponds to the graphics in Kumpf's book "Mammals of the KNP". Let's see what more comes forward!

Kind regards.

Who has one of these? Can you guess when I bought it? (I did buy it from a KNP shop). It is still stuck on the back window of our m/bus. Even getting tatty - but I am not taking it off.....[/img]

We bought that exact sticker for my father to use as a licence holder. My mom had one with a hippo on... Bought it around 96-98 when I was still in primary school.

I also have the candle holder bought there as well and the flower tin which I had on my balcony but unfortunately rusted away in no time, direct sea breezes have no mercy!
