Hi Naomi! I asked WildJohn the same question. Guess his out there working. Lucky thing
E-mailed Nomonde at Map's reception yesterday.
Last week they had a bit of rain but nothing thereafter up to midday yesterday. It's been so hot that that bit of rain had no effect :(

I see that Mapungubwe has about 70mm rain forecast for tomorrow. And I am sure that a similar amount has fallen today. :D 8)

Other areas nearby also recorded good rainfall .

It seems there was good rain all around Limpopo and Mpumalanga , at Punda Maria as well as a few other areas in KNP , unfortunately the official figures take some time to be posted on the website !

Just heard that the Limpopo is coming down in flood right now. Apparently its bank to bank and rising 8)
I was also told that Mapungubwe is like a green carpet now as well. Wish I was there.

Same here!! :D

Was a toss up between Mpungubwe and Kruger this year but as our trusty old Land Cruiser is not 100% at this moment the decision was made for us.
But this is really good news and I would love to go there again.

Thanx Dave!

Has been a while since anyone posted on this thread!

We have added a four night stay at Mazhou to our KNP trip in December and I would love to know if Mapungubwe has had any good rains yet. On our previouse visit a couple of years ago it was an absolute paradise!

:D

Hallo Naomi and other interested parties,
We have been at Mapungupwe last weekend (26 - 27 Oct 2012). I will post a few pics later on, but it seems -as Ndloti said, there was quite enough rain to turn the place into a green and lush paradise. I have never seen Boabaps so beautiful and green and at places it looks as if somebody planted beautiful lawns.

Unfortunately the "other" side where the tent camp is situated, looked quite bad and "barren". It has been trampled by elephants and although that part also got rain, it looks "empty" and dusty and no growth anywhere. Some of the trees started to get green leaves (reminds me of the Pafuri-area earlier in the year). The impalas are also very thin.

The roads doesn't look too bad and some were grated in the "main" camp area. I drive a Suzuki SX4 which is not 4x4 and we drove fairly easy on all the "strictly only 4x4's allowed" roads. It was on one of these 4x4 roads that we saw +- 10 Wild Pigs. A Lion was also keeping us company one morning on a hill in front of our Bungalow.

Good time to visit now :D
