One of my map books has a distance table and gives it as 9h50 at 25 km/h. 245 km is far at 25 ks

Dikkes, I am sure it is possible but you would have to leave at gate opening and be prepared to travel much faster than 25 kph and only stop for any really special sighting.

Thank you all. We have to be at Satara to meet some friends. We intend to leave at gate opening time.

Thanks again.

Can easily be done. I occasionally drive Pafuri Camp - Hoedspruit Airport, tar most of the way down, then along the Timbavati River to the H7 and out at Orpen. Takes about 12 hours, icluding time allowed for the B5 and whatever else is out there.

Personally, we are not fans of great-distance driving in Kruger: firstly, we feel that the atmosphere of the Park is largely lost when driving at the speed-limit (or close to it); secondly, Murphy is our biggest fan, as he always intervenes at the most inopportune time with great sightings  (then again, perhaps if we always drove rapidly, Murphy would be our greatest provider :hmz: ); and thirdly, we frequently arrive at our destination exhausted, which is not the reason why we want to be in the Park in the first place! If there is no substantive reason for it, we much prefer to doddle along and enjoy everything; we don't do the long-distance thing any more. But, different strokes, as they say. We've also tried to exit a gate and drive to another gate via civilisation, but that frequently destroys much of the magnificence and tranquility we've aggregated while in the Park. No, for us, we do shorter distances (max. 150km) in a day, even though the longer ones are indeed doable; but, in our opinion, doable with tradeoffs.

We have done Orpen - Shing in a day, stopped for lunch and had great sightings.

You might want to go at 35-50 through the thick Mopani unless there is something to stop you there.

a bit more info would help answer your question.
travelling inside the park or outside?
in a car, bicycle or walking?

Hopefully longer if you get (and should do) some 'roadblocks'

Hi GregM-W and a warm welcome to the forum.

Its about 55 kms, that is of course if you intend taking the S25 a dirt road which has a 40kph speed limit.
so I would actually estimate that it would take much more than 1 hour, sightings factored in.
We usually take 3 to 4 hours. 8)
What time do you intend entering the park?
