Riaanf31 - yes, do beware of the potholes. I was there in Sept 2011. The potholes start just around the Legogote Hill on the R538 (about 8 miles or 12 Km north of White River). They are about 1 ft square and 6 inches deep. Hit one at speed and you could break an axle! They look man-made to me because they are so regular in shape and the spacing between them seems to conform to a pattern.

Maybe it's some sort of primitive speed control system??

what is the condition of the road now does anyone know? friends of mine are leaving for Krugerpark next week.

I regularly use the Numbi Road as it is the most direct from Gauteng to Skukuza. However, the road has some challenges, both in the surface quality and then traffic density and character. If you are hasty, do not use Numbi! If you have the patience and take it easy it's an nice drive. Yes, potholes there still are and I noted the turnoff sign to Numbi from the southern approach is missing, so guests that don't know the road, could well miss the turnoff and end up in Hazyview. Alternatives are Phabeni and Malelane.

I have heard that there have been veld burns in the Pkop region recently ... is this true? It would make Numbi gate a more attractive option if this is the case Staying outside of Kruger in a few days

Thanks, Cheetah2111. I was there about 3 weeks ago and the burnt areas around Pretoriuskop are beautifully green after those early spring rains, really looking superb and drawing the necessary game!

The drive from Numbi Gate does make for a pretty picture and good game viewing. Short green shoots have replaced the burnt grass. Good visability and good game to be seen.

Visitors to the Kruger National Park (KNP) are alerted of a possible march by some people on the road outside Numbi Gate, tomorrow (27 April 2013) at 09:00.

We would like to advise those travelling to and from the Park to please avoid using that road tomorrow and use alternative routes i.e. Phabeni, Kruger and Malelane gates etc.
