Hi Everyone,

Hope you all are very well!

Breeding season for the raptors have officially started  I can tell its going to be an awesome season. I do however need all of your help in locating some of the nests for certain species. If you guys come across any Bateleur, Tawny and Martial Eagle nests could you please forward the GPS co-ords (hhhh/dddddd) or kilometers from closest waterhole. That would help a lot!

Thanks to everyone who contributes! It is much appreciated! :gflower:

Greetings from Nossob and happy birding everyone :cam:

Sorry to change the subject slightly. We have just returned from KTP after a wonderful 6 night visit mainly to Rooipunts. What puzzled me however is the total absence of vultures. Two kills and a dead Cape fox carcass could not deliver ONE VULTURE. Is there a reason for? Are there not vultures in the Rooiputs area?

not seen vultures that far south. The tawnies usually look after stuff down there.

Went for a last drive to Kiy Kiy and back on Saturday morning with Vanessa and Stefan - coming back, well after the old Rooiputs turnoff, the sky was full of dozens of circling vultures that we watched coming in to land on the ridge on our left - unfortunately they were just over the ridge so we couldn't see what it was they were eating but we could see their heads - there must have been between 30 and 40 of them - Vanessa said she had never seen so many vultures  - will ask her to post as I know she took some photos ....

Hi Bibron

By the look of it's legs, I would rather think it is a young Jackal Buzzard.

Hi Bibron

Sorry my apologies, when I saw Steppe I was thinking of a Steppe Eagle. In Afrikaans the word Steppe is only associated with the Eagle and not the buzzard. (Bruin jakkalsvoël )

Regards

A few from 7-8 October 2012, no raptor nests noted but plenty White Backed Vulture nest in the area south of Mata Mata.

Pygmy Falcon - Kamfersboom aera

Brown Snake Eagle - Craig Lockhart aera and Juvenile-ish Southern Pale Chanting Goshawk - Urikaruus area

Can figure out this one, couple km south of Mata Mata

The last one looks like a juvenile pale chanting goshawk, Michael.

Great photos, everyone!
