Made a print of your pointers, johnd. It's now in the back of my fieldguide. Thanks a lot!

WOW some good advice I stumbled on here! A lot of pointers. Thank you everyone.

Unfortunately I don't have a map of Kruger with me at the moment But I also got Temminck's Courser about 10 km North of Letaba on the bare patches to the left of the H1-6, just south of the Giyrondi road. That was in July 2010 though. Ret'z Helmet SHrike I got in Skukuza Camp just behind the Restuarant in the big trees up towards the old Museum.

Red-headed finch:
Not exactly the south, I know, but red-headed finches have been nesting consistently for years in the big Baobab exactly at the 4 marker on the H1-9, right at the (no entry) turn-off to the quarry. They share the tree with a zillion red-billed buffalo weavers.

Pied Avocet I've seen in Kruger, but can't quite remember where (I'm not exaclty a fanatical birder, let alone a twitcher). Probably at Nshawu Dam, back when it was still a dam. Have seen maccoa duck there too.

Red-headed Finches or Red-headed Weavers Johan? I know the Weavers are nesting there, have seen them on numerous times but never any Finches. There are also usually some Mosque Swallows hanging around that tree. Think they might also be roosting there.
I have seen Red-headed Finches mostly around the area between Satara and Olifants camp.

Saw one Pied Avocet at Mlondozi dam on 01/09/2012, my first for KNP.
