It is difficult to say from the pic, but definitely a cat IMHO. No nails portruding and not elongated. Could be a Caracal, or maybe smallish Leopard. :hmz:

Love Marakele Great Dane, love the report.

Just a few of this weekends pics from a windy Marakele NP. Just there for one night, spend most of our time on the campsite but had a couple drives in the non-Big 5 part.

Besides all the usual Marakele suspects we found a Bushbuck near the birdhide on our Saturday afternoon drive (first we have seen at Marakele I believe, and not on the animal checklist for Marakele here on this site). Below a few photos from the drive.

First one actually before the drive, a naughty Warthog up-close and personal. Wanted to join for lunch and in the disappointment that no invitation was given tried to push my wife off the chair. On the drive we passed this resting Ostrich in the beautiful evening light.

This Kudu was busy with a Wildebeest skull, getting some extra minerals on-board I guess. Lastly the above mentioned Bushbuck.

On to Sundays morning drive. Again stayed in non-Big 5 part and found all the usual suspects and again cat tracks on the Tssessebe loop. Size 6-7cm so possibly the same as last time, but also this time the cats was not found. Two morning drive pics.

Nyala in the woods and the very rare double horned Wildebeest

Back at the campsite the waterhole was very busy. At some stage some 60-70 Zebras was at the waterhole and on the field. Here some of them

Later a Giraffe came by and after an extremely slow and nervous approach (some one should tell it there is no Lions there) it had a good drink. I was soon joined by four Rhinos :D

Until next time, Michael and Margot

Great stuff, need help to keep this going. Not sure if we will manage to squeeze any more Marakele visits in this year. Plenty bush visits planned though, starting with coming weekend in Madikwe :cam:

I just heard from a friend of ours who stayed in Tlopi last weekend.

He said they had LEOPARD real close one evening, it woke them up! They found the spoor in the dirt road behind the tent the next morning!

I have never seen Marakele so dry as this past weekend - can only hope that the rains will come soon!
One sighting that stood out above the rest

Yes, we found the elephants! We saw three different groups, approximately 50 elephants in total!
