Cheers

Niall.

Thanks Niall, one more new tick. 55 Ticks for my Western Cape tour. So far 142 species sighted.
If someone can help with no 9 please :D

Another cisticola about which I'm not 100% sure. I'm thinking that this one is a Levaillant's (rather than a greybacked), because of the russet cap with no steaking and the yellow on the bill. Have I got it right this time?  Seen along Darling Hills Road on 19 October 2011.

I'd think Neddicky, but it would be interesting to hear what the experts say.

I also think Neddicky due to the grey on the front. The southern race has this grey on the front.

I think it's a Grey-backed Cisticola, but I also think it will be interesting to hear what the experts have to say mel123...

I would go with Grey-backed Cisticola. Neddicky has a plain back, and the grey wash on the front rules out Levaillant's.

Thanks for the interesting feedback and discussion on this. Seems that my record for always getting it wrong between greybacked and Levaillant's remains intact — but I do learn something every time I ask

Aren't you one of the experts?
I did find the experts' opinions interesting, as I thought. Very educational. :D

Nah... not at all!

Experts know everything... I'm still learning everyday... :D

I am convinced that the ones that I am going to ask for confirmation/ IDs on will not spark the debate that the CLC or YTLC has.

These were taken in Cape Town during the last week:

A Levaillants Cisticola

Easy for you all I am sure.

I too have a growing collection of 'unknown cisticolas' :wall: — to which these may be added. I try and try to distinguish between greybacked and Levaillant's cisticolas and invariably get them wrong, so .... Is this Levaillant's? See along Darling Hills Road on 31 May 2012.
