Myles,

I have asked the same question to our scientific services offices in Kimberley. It seems that it is a 20 year phenomenon taking place where Eland in the Park moved down towards the Orange River in years gone by and that they would graze there for a few months and then return to the dunes. It could also be that the water supply on the Botswana side is somehow depleted.

It would be anybody’s guess but I would go with the migration to Orange River and back.

The eland certainly look to be frolicking in the water!

Had a really nice drive at TR yesterday evening. No Leopard, though not for lack of trying, we saw 3 different lots of Eland, general game, AWCs, Bat Eared Foxes, Cape Foxes, Spring Hares and to top it off, a Brown Hyena!!

Can't wait for our December trip!!

@Rookie

And you didnt even come and say hi :shock:

Last night I had to go through to Mata-Mata to drop off emergency goodies for the camp, I left Twee Rivieren at 19h30 and only returned 00h30. With camera in hand hoping to find some good predators.........

I saw:

Eland
Eland
Eland
Eland
and five more herds of Eland from Twee Rivieren to Kamqua.
Also had some nice sightings of Jackal, BEF, Springhare and the Owls.

I thought at a stage that I saw some Lionin the riverbed, but didnt have time to stop as I needed to get the package to Mata-Mata. I did on my return stop at Gemsbokplein waterhole and switched off the vehicle and just take in the wonderfull open clear skies with a jackal calling in the back ground.

@ KG

Firstly we got in fairly late from Nossob on Sunday evening (went to check out the lion at Rooiputs)
Secondly, we did the entire MM road on Monday (seriously needs grading, tjoe!!) and saw not one cat!! Especially as there had ben so much activity on Sunday.
Came back at about 16:00, I popped into Tsammaland to chat to them (What lovely kids..can I post a photo??) and then had to rush back for the sunset drive.
Thirdly we left at gate openeing yesterday to return home.

and lastly.....I only just found out where your office is!! :tongue: :tongue:
Hope you got the bag of clothes and packet of goodies for Tsammland that I left at reception last Thursday on our way through TR.

We will have to make a plan for December. :thumbs_up:

@Rookie,

What a day you have had, I did receive the goodies thanks so much, the kids will love it. The reason for wanting to meet up was to thank you in person and wanted to know if we could take you to Tsamma Land. Im so glad you did get to meet them and see how the place have changed.

The kids have told us about the visitors they had and they are all just so happy.

We surely need to get together in December.

You are welcome to post pictures of Tsamma Land

Today is day 6 and tomorrow we are heading home again. Spent 4 glorious nights in Rooiputs and while the cheetah and the leopard were totally absent, we had some glorious lion sightings. Second morning at Rooiputs we experienced a lion kill just outside the "gate" We were in time to see the lion take his first bite into the Springbuck. This morning we took drive from TR to Kamqua and saw a brown hyaena crossing the road at Munro with a small eland hind leg in its mouth. A little further on at Kamfesboom was a family of 6 spotted hyaenas. These last 2 sigtings made out trip, as it was the first hyaena we ever saw in KTP in 3 visits

Love checking this topic almost daily, its sure to make you wish you were in KTP. So many thanks mainly to KG but also others for the reports and stories.

We will be back for a very short visit beginning October (only booked half a year in advance so couldn't get the days we hopped :doh: ). Will be our second visit this year so guess we shouldn't complain.

Anyway most if not all reports here are from TR and Nossob, how come there is so few reports from Mata Mata drives?

When there in March we booked a night drive at Mata Mata , but do to miscommunication no one showed up to take us for the drive. We were planing to give the Mata Mata night drive another try this time. Not as good as Nossob and TR at night?

Thanks in advance, Michael
