Another birdie that I've no clue what it might be :wall: The only birds I know of that have such distinct white eye 'make-up' are white eyes and and bulbuls, and it's not (I'm fairly certain :) ) either of those. And while I've searched thru my field guide several times, I've found nothing else anywhere similar :hmz: Am I missing something obvious? :wall: Seen at Nylsvley on 27 April 2012.

Hi Arks

From what I can make out, it looks to me like a White Browed Scrub-Robin.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, DD  I've googled a bit and found plenty that are very similar to this birdie.

Identification Help - LBJs

Unread postby Bushbuddies » Sat Oct 12, 2013 6:34 pm

Just wanted confirmation of 2 birdies we saw in Marakele last weekend.

The second birdie - I'm pretty sure has to be a White-browed Scrub Robin (Gestreepte Wipstert), but according to my Sasol book, it doesn't belong in the area... :hmz: Seen at Tlopi Tented Camp:

The famous Tlopi tented camp in Kruger?

I don't know what happened to your SASOL... mine shows the distribution for WBSR as well including all of KNP.

Even so... I have the second and fourth editions of SASOL which does not vary too much from the SABAP2 map (of actual sightings of this species in an 8 x 7 km grid, plotted on SA map). Both of these books included Marakele NP in the distribution map.

See here.

Thank you for the info and the correct ID of the first bird, Johan. After seeing your post I went to go double check. We used the Sasol eBirds App when looking up the distribution. After your post I checked my 3rd Edition SASOL Book - and can you believe it - the app's map is completely wrong!

Took a screenshot to show you:

Thanks for the help, though, will in future always double check good old paper and ink if unsure!
