Is this then True ?

Bontebok Camp

Closure of Bontebok National Park due to flooding

Bontebok National Park is currently closed due to flooding, and will be closed until further notice. The Park was closed with immediate effect this morning due to severe flooding inside the Park.

All visitors have been evacuated and alternative arrangements have been made with Wilderness National Park to accommodate some of them. Further measures have been taken to notify incoming visitors to the Park.

Weather forecasts predict further flooding of the Breede River. It is anticipated that there will be flood damage especially to roads, and therefore difficult to estimate how long the Park will be closed.

Dear All,

The roads are no longer flooded, but it is still very muddy and slippery. Caution is advised.

I heard that the Breede River has flooded and the Bontebok NP is affected.

Is it true and to what extent?

Flooding in Bontebok

January 8, 2014, 10:23 AM
By: |No Comments yet | Tags: Bontebok National Park, flood

Bontebok National Park has received 175mm of rain and sections are flooded. The water level of the Breede River is very high, which has resulted in the the riverview campsite being flooded. The chalets are on higher ground and are not threatened. Unfortunately, the access roads to and from Bontebok reception and Lang Elsies Kraal rest camp are flooded. As of 8 January 2014 it is not possible to access the facilities. Please contact the park on 028 514 3206 before making your way there.

Thanks LQ.

Pity no access. It would be great to kayak & swim there now.

Herewith an update on the floods at Bontebok National Park as on Monday, 13 January 2014.

The access road to the Park is open but road conditions are still very poor. Normal vehicles will be able to enter the Park but the internal roads utilised for game viewing remain closed.

The chalet and camping sites are open to overnight visitors, but the river-view camp sites will remain closed until further notice.

For enquiries regarding the flood situation, please contact:
