I am not sure who decides on where the bird hides are placed.. nor do I know the cost implications... but it would be wonderful to have more bird hides available. When we stop at a dam it would be wonderful to be able to get out of the vehicle and view from a hide. eg Gudzani, Transport, to name but 2... maybe others think like I do? :hmz:

Hi Anne, there has been a lot of discussion in the past about more hides, some of it rather heated.

One of the issues was the enviromental impact. Unfortunately many of these places attract large numbers of people. Some visitors are not that concerned about the enviroment and there was a time when a few of the more popular sites were used as latrines. I think this has subsided.

I think there was a general consensus that there should probably be greater availability in some of the camps.

More bird hides would be great! But as MM mentioned the environmental impact could be an issue. Perhaps such bird hides should be restricted to overnight visitors only. :hmz:

According to the KNP Zoning document released a couple of weeks ago, there are about 10 new bird hides planned. If you download the doc, you can see on the maps where they are marked.

I see evidence of 4 or 5 new hides. Some of the other "new" ones seems to be right on top of some of the existing ones.

2 or 3 More near Shingwedzi and 2 more around Tshokwane.

Puzzles me that non is planned in the Pafuri area.

I do however see a campsite in the Pafuri, which i am not so sure about it being a good thing. And good luck getting accommodation there. It will be packed to the brim!

New sleepover hides at Klopperfontein dam, Shingwedzi and Letaba, Nsemani dam, somewhere near Tamboti, at Transport dam it seems, Ntandanyati hide, and also just north of Croc bridge. Wow, that's a lot IMO!

Looks like the Sweni hide and Pioneer dam hide will be closed down as well.

The view from the hide inside Tamboti is overgrown and does not do a hide justice.
