Hi nellkell and welcome to the forum :)

The Nuweveld trail is 90km long but not all of it is 4x4: you access the trail via the Potlekkertjie Loop and so at least half is normal gravel road. The trail is fairly easy to do and will only be closed in very wet conditions.
Embizweni cottage is set in a scenic, remote landscape with wonderful views. It sleeps 6 people and has electricity, cooking & eating utensils, bedding and towels.
There is no need to book for the trail (free of charge). The cottage can be booked through Karoo receprion on Karooreservations@sanparks.org or Tel 023 4152828.

Here are some pics of the cottage:

Thank you Addo Elephant - the photos are very welcome. It looks like our kind of place, away from the crowds!
I realise that it will be very hot in December, but living in Kimberley, I think we will be able to cope.

Graham, lions were actually translocated from Addo NP to Karoo NP in 2010; I believe that all accommodation has been sufficiently fenced, which means braais should be a go-ahead. :D

Thanks onewithnature - the last photo makes it look as if there is no fence - almost as though one really is one with nature!!

Hi nellkell

Embizweni cottage does not have a fence around the cottage itself but there is a elevated porch with a gaurd rail. So we advice people not to walk around in the veld around the cottage as there is free roaming lions in the area.

There are free hikes in the park but due to the dangerous game introduction in the park and the physcal nature of the hikes there's an age restriction of 12 years old.

Thank you Jansen ! Tempting though it may be, we will stay on the porch and enjoy the view! I take it that there will be some birds around al well.
