as he seems to be called. KG I wonder if you know the history behind this lion - any idea of what might have caused the injury? A kick from a Gemsbok? Tobieo has a recent photograph of him on his trip report and he looks quite thin - when I last saw him he was in wonderful condition - but that was a year ago now. I think this is one of the best things about this park, that year after year you see the same animals and can keep track of them through sightings on the forums.

I would love to know the story behind this guy! I was really close to him on one day and wow does he smell! He had a real rotting smell and was also salivating excessively

they were here 3 days in a raw... maybe more...
and his misery compagnion, with the quills

Hi everybody!
I'm new to the forums and this is a first for me.
I visited the Kgalagadi in February 2012 and would love to share a few pics of the so-called
Mane Brothers of the Auob river. Correct me if I'm wrong!
We were driving from Twee Rivieren towards Mata Mata when we found this magnificent male lion
under a tree to the left side of the road near the turnoff to the lower dune road.

We left him in peace and drove onwards towards Mata Mata. At about 3 kms onwards this enormous,
very blonde lion, stood up from behind bushes to the left side of the road. He had a brandmark 7 on
his left thigh, in trouble some time?! He crossed the road and walked all along the riverbed towards
Auchterlonie, almost as if on a mission somewhere.

It was only when the two lions started running towards each other that we realised them to be
related. It sure was a heartwarming experience! They greeted as only lions do.
What fascinated me was the fact that although they were almost 3 kms apart, they were
perfectly aware of each other!
Lions never fail to amaze me!!

The greeting

Enough for now, hope you will enjoy my little story!
