Hi all!
I have been to Kruger many times and am going again in 2 weeks for the first time in 3 years (I can't wait!). Every time we do the S28 with very little luck.
I was wondering what other people think...
Which is the better of the two roads when traveling from Croc Bridge to L Sabie for sightings?
In all the years I have gone, since a child with my parents, I have never seen a Kruger Cheetah and would dearly like to this year!

Which of the two roads have you had better luck on which would you recommend?
I would love to hear what sightings people have had on the two roads, especially over the last few months. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

We had good luck on the S28 from Croc Bridge to LS on April 26th.
I will post the photo later ..... saw lots of general game but the cherry on top was a cheetah lying on top of a dead tree trunk.
A kudu with two young ones came along and barked at the cheetah and it jumped off, walked in the long grass and then into the road and walked about 50m north with two or three cars trailing.
It then marked its territory, found a wonderful open patch to lie on near us, preened itself and lay there just so relaxed.
This happened about 2km south of the hide.
I do believe this cheetah has been seen quite often in this area, so its worth a trip.
May be a good idea to check the sighting board when you enter through Croc Bridge just to gauge if anything interesting was sighted.
We did and for once it paid off.

On 20 April, early, driving from CB north we saw two cheetah within about half an hour of each other. Also saw lions and ellies on the same drive.

I personally prefer side roads to the main road and there are some magnificent views on the S28 too. The tar goes through quite a long patch of thick bush which can be a bit 'dry' sightings-wise.

This is just my opinion, and, as always, its the science of being in the right place at the right time.

In February the H4-2 was very dead, and the S28 had plenty of game
The S28 has had the most cheetah sightings out of any Kruger road according to the Blackberry Updates.
The H10 is in second place
I would always rate the S28 over the H4-2!
Unless I'm searching for wild dogs

My own preference is the S28.
There are often sightings a couple of kilometres before the Duke waterhole turn off, coming from Croc Bridge. I wonder if there is a particularly tasty bit of sweet grass.
I have seen both Cheetah and Lion feasting on kill.
I nearly always see the usual game if there are no predators around.

I am also surprised at how quiet the road can be, even in the busy season.

I must agree Mousy! The S28 and Duke junction is a great game viewing area!

The S 28 for me is always a good road

I saw once a lion in the distance and it raced towards us to grab a baby warthog , all happened in fron of the car

Seen the 3 cheetah brothers many times

Lots of elephant sightings , buffalo , giraffe , zebra etc we see

The 5kms before the Duke Waterhole turnoff coming from Croc Bridge I like to call 'the magic 5 kms"

I drive very slowly and most times see something special

Take this road especially early morning you will see a few predators

the H 4 - 2 can be very unpredicatable , about 6km from the gate there is a hyena den and in the late afternoons we tend to see at least 6 hyenas

Also just before the S 28 turn off from Croc Bridge way , there is a a little waterhole on your left , lions have been spotted there regularly

Going on the 16th , cant wait

Valentines Day this year at the beginning of the S28 near Croc Bridge we got as close as you will ever get to a cheetah :-)

We have never done the s28 early in the morning, usually we have done the H4-2 first and come back up the s28.
This year I think we will skip the H4-2!

It seems I am the odd one out.
Personally I have had better luck on the H4-2 than the S28 in all the times I have driven both. (Must say, I have not been in that part since 2004 - but up till then I have done both roads quite a few times).
But it is the luck of the draw.
I have been particularly lucky on the S130 (Gomondwane Loop) too.
All in all, it is one of the best game viewing areas in the park - whether it is on the S28 or the H4-2.

No Stoffel you aren't the only one, I've consistently had better sightings on the tar road.

Unfortunately the grass on the S28, altho brown and dry is still extremely high and hasn't yet died down so we battled for sightings despite driving it frequently this last month.
Not that the lower part of the H4-2 was much better!
Once next to the river sightings improved.

The game viewing shall perhaps improve as the dry season kicks in!
The H4-2 has been producing Lions often in June according to BBM updates! Close to CB

I am still undecided and will probably go with my gut instinct on the day. I have been following the live sightings updates and seems that more cheetahs have been spotted on s28 but general sightings on H4-2 have been picking up lately. I guess it all comes down to luck and timing on the day. We will try both roads while we are there and I will post a report when I get back as to which we had better luck on

The cheetahs will probably be on whichever road we DON"T drive anyway as usual LOL

But it doesn't matter, looking forward to any and all sightings, big and small.
