Thank you, BushSnake.

I was fortunate to have a snake sighting with each of my 3 visists to Kruger. First a puffadder just outside Olifants camp, I guess a black mamba on the H4-1 just before Nkulu picnic site and now this Mozabique spitting cobra. I will post some pics on those topics :cam: - perhaps some confirmation needed regarding the black mamba perhaps (might had it wrong) :hmz: .

Next visit to Kruger: Dec'12

Hi Daffy.
I agree with Ales that the bottom photo is of a mole snake and I agree with Bush snke that the top to pics are of an olive whip snake.
Nice pics!

In oct we were in the pool area of Lower Sabie, when this snake caught someone's attention in a hollow in the tree.
We were told it was a boomslang? Is it? if not, what is it.
It was reported to the office and were told it was removed and put back in the bush.

thanks

Yip agreed!

Definatly a spotted bush snake! Lovely littles guys and totally harmless! The pattern on the snake is wrong for a Boomslang and the eye position and size is also not right! Head is also the wrong shape...... You can also clearly see the latter part of the body is totaly green in colour...... distinctive!

Hello everyone. Just returned from Kruger and need help with identifying 2 snakes. Here are two images of the first snake. This is my first time attempting to post photos, so I hope they work. Thanks for your help!

Here is the image of the second snake I would like help identifying. For a size guide- this snake when stretched out was more than 1/2 the width of the road.

Second one most certainly a Mamba  big brute.

Neither of those are mambas. The first is a snouted cobra (Naja annulifera) and the second looks like one as well, although I'm not 100% sure as it can also be a Mozambique spitting cobra (Naja mossambica).

Black mambas are more slender snakes, and their scales appear much smoother than that of the cobras. The texture that you can see on the snake in the second photo would probably not have been visible in a mamba, and that is also the reason I ruled out a large grass snake (Psammophis mossambicus). All of the above mentioned snakes will reach this size, and all are known for lifting their heads like this.
