Cammers, I am sorry about the flood light's bulb at Satara webcam - seems to have blown  .

My colleagues at Satara will attend to it soon (well not tonight...that would be a bit dangerous!). But tomorrow!

Fortunately it was working while the lions were active at the waterhole the previous 2 nights!

Thanks for your understanding and patience!

Good news! The bulb of the flood light at Satara waterhole was replaced this morning! The replacement could not take place the previous evening or the previous day as the lions were always in close proximity and it was a bit dangerous to replace the flood light then :naughty:

Thanks to JV and his team at Satara!

Happy camming!

I second that, Granny B!!

Big thanks :k to all who made it possible to see a "live" kill on the cams, as well as all the other wondrous sights available to us, even from the other side of the planet.

Thank you, Danie and JV and team :gflower:

An extra special thank you to you, Danie. You spent a lot of after hours time here and shared valuable info with us. This amazing sighting became even more amazing when you zoomed in and searched for the location of the kill for us.
You are a very, very special man. Thank you :gflower:

Danie, out of interest are you able to see the cams in real time via your remote control?

Hi PJL, Yes, I can view most of the webcams in real time here from Pretoria (especially Orpen and Addo; Nossob is via satellite so also a bit of a challenge). If there is sufficient bandwidth on the data lines to the sites where the webcams are to sustain the video stream and carrying the commands sent to the webcam, I do control the webcams now and then BUT Satara is not at that stage yet to do if often  ..but soon.....upgrade! So at Satara that only happens in special cases (like today!)

At Satara I see about a frame of video about every 2 seconds (at the moment after hours - 22:10 SAST) and it takes about 15 seconds now (after working hours) from the moment I tell the camera to move (zoom/pan/tilt) until it actually reacts due the the lack of bandwidth to Satara.

During the day, I try to avoid watching the Satara camera 'live' and controlling it to enable our 'normal' online data/network operations to continue using max bandwidth available (e.g. checking in of our guests, etc) to ensure other crucial data to flow on this link. When I command the webcam during the day it takes around 50 seconds to react! So one has to anticipate the move of the camera and it is not very easy to control as it does not react as expected and animals do not wait for the pan or zoom to complete

The data line to Satara will be upgraded very soon within the next month after lots of changes on the microwave system of the telecoms company in Kruger National Park and it will then be more than 10x faster! So we are all looking forward to that - especially my colleagues at Satara!

That also opens up more possibilities on the webcam(s)...but.....lets not make promises now...perhaps..mmm..audio?

That would be very nice indeed.
I hope we can experience something similar to what africam.com is offering.

Thanks

Just see the orpen highlights and the lions of yesterday. Seems they are all males :hmz: - is this a local pride at orpen??
