Originally I'd thought that this was a pearlspotted owlet, but now, looking more closely at my photos, I'm thinking that it may rather be an African barred owlet? Seen in a tree overlooking my tent at Limpopo Forest tented canp, Mapungubwe, on 15 April, 2012.

Saw this beaut between Croc Bridge and Lower Sabie over the long weekend.
Laine took the photo.

This one has me totally puzzled :wall: and I know the pix are very poor quality, but I only got the one image as the bird flew off. My guess would have been greyheaded parrot, but it has streaky underparts :hmz: So I have NO idea. (Perhaps it's not a parrot at all, but possibly an owl???) Seen at 07h17 from my tent in Limpopo Forest Tented Camp, Mapungubwe, on 29 October 2014.

No enough clarity to make any confirmed call, but don't rule out juvenile Shikra or Little Sparrowhawk. Looks to big for Barred Owl.

Those blotches on the underparts are pretty conclusive evidence for barred owl.

Thanks for confirming, Johan :gflower: I think that it may be only the 2nd (or 3rd) one that I've ever seen, but at the time, I was somehow convinced that it was a parrot

Don't underestimate the barred on Map (or as we call them Piet) I have also noticed they are really BIG.
I live in my own little world. But it's okay they know me here.
