Danie, out of interest are you able to see the cams in real time via your remote control?
Hi PJL, Yes, I can view most of the webcams in real time here from Pretoria (especially Orpen and Addo; Nossob is via satellite so also a bit of a challenge). If there is sufficient bandwidth on the data lines to the sites where the webcams are to sustain the video stream and carrying the commands sent to the webcam, I do control the webcams now and then BUT Satara is not at that stage yet to do if often

..but soon.....upgrade! So at Satara that only happens in special cases (like today!)
At Satara I see about a frame of video about every 2 seconds (at the moment after hours - 22:10 SAST) and it takes about 15 seconds now (after working hours) from the moment I tell the camera to move (zoom/pan/tilt) until it actually reacts due the the lack of bandwidth to Satara.
During the day, I try to avoid watching the Satara camera 'live' and controlling it to enable our 'normal' online data/network operations to continue using max bandwidth available (e.g. checking in of our guests, etc) to ensure other crucial data to flow on this link. When I command the webcam during the day it takes around 50 seconds to react! So one has to anticipate the move of the camera and it is not very easy to control as it does not react as expected and animals do not wait for the pan or zoom to complete
The data line to Satara will be upgraded very soon within the next month after lots of changes on the microwave system of the telecoms company in Kruger National Park and it will then be more than 10x faster! So we are all looking forward to that - especially my colleagues at Satara!
That also opens up more possibilities on the webcam(s)...but.....lets not make promises now...perhaps..mmm..audio?
That would be very nice indeed.
I hope we can experience something similar to what africam.com is offering.
