Orangethroated Longclaw

I took these pics early in the morning soon after entering the park.
There had been rain overnight and small puddles of water had collected along the road's edge.
I found this Orangethroated Longclaw having an early morning bath in one of them.

This one was enjoying the early morning sunshine after the night of rain

When another car passed by he briefly stood up straight before flying off

Lovely Longclaw, beautiful colours.

I do feel rather sorry for the poor wee mouse :( but very good sighting.

Hi PJL

Often when one comes across one of these birds they will have their backs turned to you. :(

Only once after they have relaxed do they turn around displaying those striking colours.

Lionspoon I took the pic of the Longclaw at exactly the same spot you took yours :)

It may even be the same bird :hmz:

I have not often seen the stilts in Addo so the four-in-one shot was a special one for me

Early morning ellie sighting.
Soon after I had entered the park Saturday morning I stopped to watch this ellie feeding on the bushes in the background. As he was feeding he was slowly making his way up. I was the only one there and enjoying his company alone. When the ellie wanted to cross the road he turned towards my car walking past it on his way.
WoW what a sighting for so early in the morning.

Great photo Ronnie   Such an impressive perspective having him so close... it's awesome when you're there first and the ellies make their way around your car.

And almost a self-portrait in the wing mirror as well

Might be the same bird we were chasing like mad, but the only IDable photo I got is of the youngster.

That ellie was kinda, uhm, close! But he didn't greet you with his trunk?
