Today's sightings board:

(Looks a little suspicious - all the dots are at Rooiputs...)

Anyway,

Leopard at Leeuwdril
Lions at Rooiputs, Kij Kij and Kij Gamies
Cheetah at Rooiputs
Spotted Hyena at Rooiputs

And lots of other dots (Meerkat, wild cat etc...) At Rooiputs

Night drive at 8:30 and I'll head out to that wildebeest! Hopefully there will be something still chewing on it...

I'm a vegetarian :) And I'm not hungry. I tried to make roosterkoek today and I failed because I couldn't stop eating the raw dough. Soooo yummy! But I ate about 3 roosterkoeks worth of raw dough. Tummy ache...

Thank you, dead wildebeest!

Twee Rivieren Night Drive:

Cape Fox
Scrub Hare
Spring Hare
Gemsbok

On the way to our wildebeest, we saw a brown hyena also making its way there! I decided to take the long way there and wasn't disappointed as in the dunes we saw:

Steenbok
African Wild Cat
Spotted Eagle Owl

At the carcass, a brown hyena was there and I'm assuming it was the same as earlier, although there were 2 sets of brown hyena tracks coming from the opposite direction too. Still lots of wildebeest left and the hyena ate for a while before catching the scent of something that sent it back over the dune.

Then 100m down the road, mystery solved when we met a Black Maned Lion. We followed another two sets of lion tracks all the way to Samevloeiing (always fun to have to get out of the car while following fresh lion tracks at night...). The camera trap is up at Samevloeiing and I can't wait to see how much we missed those lions by!

A great night with some spectacular views of Brown Hyena :)

It was a dark and stormy night tonight for my sunset and night drives, but thankfully that didn't deter my passengers, or the animals!

Sunset:
We set out to have a look at a couple ex wildebeest along the aoub road, and were rewarded with a sighting of two male lions! Black mane and Tan mane of the mane brothers were busy trying to digest what they had already eaten on the far side of the river, and so after watching them for a few minutes we carried on.

It wasn't till we started heading back that we found lion prints on top of the ones we had left earlier in the drive, and found the lions up and walking around! One had apparently wandered away from the dead wildebeest nearby that a brown hyena had figured that it could safely move in - but not so! The hyena got chased off by the lions, and got a good couple swats for his impudence from the tan lion! Was quite amazing to see!

Other then the lion activity, we saw black backed jackals, spotted eagle owls, the usual 'boks, and an African wild cat.

Night:
The lions had walked over to the main road by the time we got back out on the night drive, and spent a fair amount of time grooming each other right beside the road, which was an amazing sighting for my guests!
We also saw:
- 'boks!
- 3 small spotted genets sharing a tree and hiding from the rain
- African wild cat
- spring hares

Two excellent, if rather damp, game drives!

Only had a sunset drive tonight, I'm afraid, but it was an excellent one!

- 6 separate African wild cat sightings, including a set of frolicking wildcat kittens!
- Black-backed jackal
- Tawney Eagle
- Spotted Eagle Owl
- Egyptian Geese (a rare sighting in the park!)
- the usual 'boks
- 2 porcupines! Another first for me! I'd been searching for these guys every night, and am ecstatic that I finally caught up with them. They didn't stick around long, dashing off into the bush as I approached, but I managed to get close enough to get a good look at them as they waddled off the road in front of us and into the tall grass of the nossob river.

Off on another 4x4 trail tomorrow! Till next week!

Morning all,

Yesterday was one of those days where I just needed to get 'OUT THERE' again. I took the sunset drive out and if the animals knew they had to show themselves it turned out to be an amazing drive.

The following was seen:

Caracal (Right next to the vehicle)
Two Cheetah busy feeding on their kill.
Cape Fox playing around and in front of the vehicle
Plenty Raptors
We saw Genet three times (Total of 5 genets)
African Wild Cat hunting mice
Brown Hyena walking 3 meters past the vehicle just staring at us.

And then plenty of general game.
As we ended the Night drive it started raining

Nossob drive:

Bakore (Bat Eared Fox)
Jakkalse (Jackal)
Gevlekte ooruile (Spotted Eagle Owl)
Gewone wild (General Game)
