The snake that is seen on the Picture is an adult Female Boomslang (Dispholidus typus typus)

We saw 2 puff adders on 29/4/09, each just lying on the road (well, the headed off a bit after we got to the scene... sorry puffies!) less than 1km apart on exit road Malelane - one was just before the bridge. It was JUST before the gates closed and very dark already, so I would presume they come on to the tar for the heat - it is getting cold at night.

However another car stopped next to us and the driver who's a (private?) guide said he reckons they indicate it's going to rain. True's Bob, 2 days later it rained here in Barberton (ja, that sounds a bit but now I'm curious, maybe it DID rain in Malelane too, and if so, was it coincidence??). Becoz I thought the rains were finished.

What do you think? Heat of the tar is still the winner imo

We were fortunate enough to have our second sighting of a Blind Snake.
This time a Schlegel Blind Snake. Typhlops schlegelii
This time on the H1-1 quite close to the Willem Pretorius grave site. Date 17 June 2009.
Time 15:45.
Temperature 17 C.
Length approximately 35 cm.
Colour : Nearly black mottles on a lighter blueish/grayish dorsal part with a yellowish green ventral colouring..

When I was at pretoriuskop last October I made my way to the ablutions in the camping ground and was surprised to see an old bootlace wrapped around the door handle at the entry to the gents.

I must point out here, I had consumed quite a few beers. "That's odd" I thought, as I reached up. At that point the "bootlace" reared up and tried to strike me.

It was about 30-40cm long and browny-green.

I kicked open the door, went into the gents, got the mop and brushed the snake off the door handle and shooed it away. It was quite intent on striking at and killing the mop, but eventually it slithered away.

It was just as well I was drunk, as if I'd been sober I would have run around in circles screaming like a ltitle girl, as I usually hate snakes and am petrified of them. Shows what a little 'dutch courage' can do for you.

I also agree with blackmambaman. What was the length of the snake ? Anything over 1.5m is most probably a black mamba. Boomslangs don"t grow that long( according to all the books I've read)

This photo was posted on Twitter by Leonard van der Walt and thought I should share it with you. The Python was found inside the Renault's Bonnet trying to feel the warmth . BTW, I am terrified of snakes, no matter the size. Had this one been in my car, I would have just ran away and left the car
