Thx to Caracal for the heads-up and the lekker snap. She really is a very pretty little bird. Saw some serious lenses down there taking pics of her but she didnt mind at all. In and out the reeds and if one is patient then she just came out again.

A very pretty lady indeed 8) Thanks for the pix Caracal and AjayB, nice for those of us far, far away to have a glimpse of this special lady! (And is that possibly our very own BB on the far right of AjayB's last photo?)

Please, keep this away from Picnic, she might try to auction the lovely lady

Without a doubt, a sweet lady.

My first ever twitch

It was very interesting chatting to a couple of the country's 'top' birders I know and being introduced to others in the high 800s there at the site. (I only have about 400 to go!) The only forumites I saw there were Deefstes and TH.

Luckily, the bird presented quite often and for long periods, once to the annoyance of a resident moorhen. The African snipes didn't seem to mind all the fuss though.

Some of my friends think it is daft to fly down from Joburg in the hope of seeing one lost birdie. Staying for an hour or 3 and then catching the next plane home without 'enjoying' the Cape.

As one with more than my fair share of idiosyncracies, I say to them, allow them their idiosyncracies as you are allowed yours, or as Dilbert aptly puts it "Everybody is someone else's weirdo".

:D BB. I could have said you were in disguise but someone else spotted you at 100 yards  Sorry I missed you. Guess attention was on the little lady causing all the fuss followed very closely by some of the nicest camera equipment I have ever seen assembled in one place.Turns out serious twitchers have some seriously impressive gear...I wouldnt have minded a quick estimate of the value of the assembled camera gear :hmz:
